Hey guys
I was wondering do you guys use the EZ bar curls?? is there any advances to using the olympic bar and the EZ curl bar? I've been using the olympic bar for years and feel that I need a change. my elbows and wrist hurt from the Olympic bar curls.
thanks guys

Yea, the advantages are your wrists don't hurt.

E-Z curl's good for preacher curls using a close grip, but for standing curls it compromises direct biceps work while hitting the brachialis & forearms more. Not a bad thing but not as direct when it comes to biceps work.
If your wrists hurt or you just need a break try other standing curl alternatives after letting the injuries heal. Standing DB curls that will allow more freedom of motion and should stress the joints less, or standing cable curls that won't hurt the wrists the same way. Or do other biceps exercises instead.

I had a couple of wrist injuries (broke both my wrists several times) so the EZ bar is the only thing I can physically do without my wrists feeling like they are going to snap. True, they aren't as good of a direct hit to the bicep, but I alternate standing DB curls to compensate.

hte only times i use the ez bar are for upright rows and for skull crushers on an incline bench
-
I only use it for skull crushers. I don't use any type of bar for my bi training.
-
yeah i use it sometimes
-
Yup EZ bar curls on a Scot bench

i just about never use the ez bar maybe once in a while on the preacher but mostly just use dumbbells for bis and lying cable curl which is awesome...and for the skull crushers ive been using dumbbells and an decline bench....try that its a pretty crazy burn...

I use both (EZ & straight-bar).
But to put not too much stress on my wrists i use the EZ-Bar for the heavier weights and the straight bar for moderate weights. Sometimes i do that kind of Training in a Superset, starting out with heavy EZ-Curls
for about 5-7 reps, directly followed by 10-12 reps of straight bar curls.

I think I might buy an EZ bar so I can do overhead extensions and also reverse curls.
-
I use a short EZ bar for cable curls - much more effective than the barbell in my opinion, even with a free EZ bar - I use a wide grip for a set of twelve and then immediately switch to an inner grip for another set of 12 - has improved my biceps more than a free weight ever could becuase there's contant tension on the muscles.

Cable curls are seriously under-rated, are one of the best size builders. Ya for some reason E-Z cable curls still hit the biceps well, unlike BB curls.

As alternatives also take a look at a hammer triceps bar or a "super" E-Z curl bar, which is similar to but not the same as an E-Z curl bar. All of those bars can also be used for close-grip benches, are easier on the wrists.

but only with a double-roll, not on the long pulley station (Back, 1 roll). The double roll gives a constant resistance, which a stack with 1 roll don`t give.
The problem is that most cable roll only have 150-250 lbs weight stack (and the real resistance is about 50 %).

It's called easy bar for a reason :D

True, I saw both those bars on ebay so I'll probably get one. I want more triceps development, but since the straight bar is uncomfortable for extensions and CGB the only triceps exercise I've been doing is one-arm overhead Db extensions.

Yes, because it's easier on your wrists and takes the stress off the tendons.
You're not harder just because you curl with a straight bar you know. ;)

this post is on the money. i personally don't even like the ez bar for preachers... i think most people use it because that's how they started doing preachers, i feel a much better burn in both heads of the biceps when using a straight bar.
i think the correct suggestion would be to forget about barbell curls for a while or to do them at the end of the workout when you are fatigued and the muscle is warm and loose

Yep. Wrists don't hurt.
