Title: Morning Workouts?
Post by: peter north on February 23, 2008, 02:48:52 PM
This might have been covered before but I'll ask anyway. Is it a bad idea to workout first thing in the morning on an empty stomach? My schedule pretty only allows me to workout first thing in the morning. I wake up, brush my teeth and walk across the street to the gym.
Should I consume a little something before i go?

There was a lengthy thread discussing morning empty stomach cardio which you should do a search for and read.  Pretty much the answer is no, you should get some nutrients in there first before working out.

At least have a shake and a piece of fruit. It doesn't take that long.

i used to start at 5:30am, i had some muscle milk pre-workout and sipped an energy drink during the workout, had breakfast at around 8, started work at 9.  did not notice any differences in strength or endurance compared to afternoon workouts.

Agreed. If your gonna do weight training, you should have some food in your system beforehand.

Universal's supplement "Animal pump "specifically states taking 1/2 hour before training preferrably on an empty stomach - i guess it depends on your metabolism and bodily set up. Personally i prefer to work out in the morning and usually using pump ensures an empty system. Ever considered taking some dextrose in fruit juice prior to killing the steel.
