Title: colitis
Post by: mopar_freak on May 05, 2008, 01:38:29 PM
Is there any correlation between bodybuilding and colitis?

Some "experts" say it has to do with a high volume of protein intake. I've known people with it... They seem to be ok but they tell me its kinda painful.

Like you say the etiology is unknown. Steroids do affect immunity though so maybe steroids could trigger it. Who knows?

i would highly suggest it has a th1-th2 polarization with early life lack of endotoxins being part of the complex etiology. MAP bacteria and general dysbiosis have been implicated. Also high levels of circulating TNF-a are certainly an issue perhaps secondary to the low levels of il-10 and cAMP.

your assertion of steriods suppressing immunity is a good suggesting IME.

I read something about Th2 cytokine profile being associated with colitis. And that androgens promote a Th2 cytokine profile. I don't really understand the science though.  :D

There are studies that suggest lack of digestive enzymes can cause colitis.

sorry didnt see your post.

in infancy th2 is dominant and progresses to a th1 profile, lack of infection can cause th2 switch to become impaired leading to autoimmunity, however th1 also leads to autoimmunity. so it is not so much which polarization but lack of treg cells namely the interlukin il-10 which suppress self tolerance via toll like receptors. if you lack immunosuppression your body will attack itself.

Look up in the sky on a perfectly blue sky day at anytime between noon and PM...The chemtrails that are being sprayed on us are causing numerous problems with our digestion, fertility and blood pressure...
