Title: Canned: Tuna or Chicken?
Post by: MidniteRambo on May 21, 2008, 12:10:40 PM
Canned Chicken or Canned Tuna?  Please discuss.  You may include price as a consideration or throw another canned meat or fish (e.g. canned wild salmon) into the discussion.

My vote is canned tuna based mainly on price, although the toxins issue is a valid consideration.

I like the canned salmon much better than tuna, especially if it's not doctored up.  Regular price is $1.69/can but when on sale, only $1.00.

I vote for tuna sashimi, salmon steak, roast chicken, and swordfish.  Just remember, "Tupperware is nature's can."

Canned chicken BREAST is okay in a pinch.  If it's not white meat, who knows what crap you're getting.  You could rinse it a little to remove some of the salty taste.

I don't find this salty at all. (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41JBC7A99FL._SL500_AA280_.jpg)

What about canned Tuna in water or canned Tuna in oil? Oil seems to be more expensive...I only asked because I never really gave a fuck in the past, but my wife was pissed at me for bringing home the oil type  :'(

Tell her she's heading for a spanking with that attitude.  She'll love it.  ;)

The oil they pack the tuna in isn't good quality olive oil, it's probably canola or something cheaper.  I can't remember the ins-n-outs of it, but the bottom line is that it's not all healthy fats, so you're better off buying the tuna in water and adding your own olive oil.  Obviously the tuna in oil has way more calories too, which may have been your wife's objection to it.

canned tuna in oil is nasty! there is a brand i often buy, which is imported from spain and comes in olive oil, but not as good as if you add your own olive oil. I use carbonel olive oil and some other brands

I wish I liked tuna - so high in protein yet so cost effective - I spend a fortune on chicken.  :(

The Wal-Mart generic version (Great Value) is pretty good. And, it's only $2 for a 12.5-ounce can, which is about 55-60 grams of protein. It's all white meat, from what I can tell.
