Title: Possibility of Tito Ortiz going to Elite XC
Post by: gymrat75 on June 10, 2008, 03:46:46 PM
EliteXC exec confirms interest in Tito Ortiz

EliteXC today confirmed its on the growing list of organizations that will compete for free agent Tito Ortiz's services.

EliteXC Head of Operations Jeremy Lappen confirmed the organization's interest today in a conference call for this Saturday's "EliteXC: Return of the King" event, which airs on Showtime and features a main event between lightweight champ KJ Noons and Yves Edwards.

"We're interested," Lapin said. "We'd love to have Tito as part of our organization."

EliteXC is the second organization publicly to announce its interest in the perhaps soon-to-be-ex UFC star. New Affliction partner Donald Trump, with whom Ortiz has developed a budding relationship after "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" appeared on Trump's reality show, "Celebrity Apprentice," announced last week that his organization would also like to sign Ortiz to a contract.

"I think every organization out there would love to have Tito," Lapin said. "We're talking to him, and we'll see what happens. The deal has always got to make sense for both sides. He'd be a great addition to our organization."

Although Ortiz and UFC President Dana White's very public feuding over the years would seem virtually to guarantee a departure from the organization, Ortiz himself has not completely ruled out a return to the octagon. When asked if he would be leaving the organizations, Ortiz told UFC commentator Joe Rogan, "I haven't decided at all," in a post-fight interview at UFC 84.

While Ortiz is no longer among the top 10 fighters in the world, his name recognition and marketability remain among the highest for any MMA competitor, and UFC events featuring Ortiz remain among the most-watched in MMA history.

where else is he gonna go and what more could elite xc want than a name like tito's for drawing power in an otherwise bush league organization...

elite xc's gonna be picking up disgruntled "name's" from the UFC for the next 2 or 3 years,I'm pretty sure that would be the game plan from the start

I promise you if the UFC does anything not the liking of BJ he will head over to support Elite XC in a heartbeat.  And it could even be before that.  Who knows.  Once Elite gets the right fighters I think they will do very well.

Tito moving to a smaller promoter is a good idea for him.  He would then become the big fish in a small pound.  At this stage in his career he just can't compete with A level fighters and might even struggle with the upper echelon of the B fighters.

In his press release, Trump mentions several times that he likes Tito and is planning on bringing him along.  Tito also recently mentioned that he wants to promote his own fights.  Tito probably made the right move financially, but in terms of his legacy in MMA, probably not...

every time tito opens his mouth and or has a press conference anywhere near dana,he takes years off his legacy.....

tito no more has a legacy than ken shamrock does,in ten tears the sport will have evolved to a point where the $64,000 will be "tito who " ?

At this point in both of their carrers this would be an okay move.... I don't think Frank can beat Cung, but then again he was doing okay in that fight.. I just think that they both better get it on, so it doesn't end up like Randy and Fedor....
