Washington-[/b-In tesnsified attacks by Republican John McCain on the character of his Democratic opponent have coincided with Barak Obama losing a 9 percentage point advantage in a national poll, which showed the candidates running dead even over the weekend.

I am totally self made
You gave birth to yourself? ::)
Face it moosehead, you are bought and paid for by the republican party. A political yes man who goes to the polls and pulls the lever for the (R) candidate regardless of the qualifications of the candidate.
-
I am totally self made
bro, don't have to tell us that, Benny has no idea what it means to build a business. Fact is if Obama does get elected companies are going to declare bankruptcy, and liquidate assets, bye bye. No one is going to pay 50% taxes, and have a good business.
-

The state-by-state polls matter a great deal. Obama leads in several Bush states, by historically unbeatable margins.
Our nation uses a state-by-state system to decide the winner.
Therefore state-by-state polls are what matters. Mccain may lead in national polls, because he has leads of 20 points in places like Utah. Doesn't affect national outcome.
Ask Al Gore. He won the national election... but lost because we use a state by state system

Carol says your words ring very true.
She is the political afficianado of the house.
I can still dream, can't I? :)
Gotta talk to ya about her website and also posting me and Kyomu for our 'battle' royale

This country made the disgraceful decision to reelect Bush and choosing McCain(bush Light), for a President will reaffirm the world's opinion of Americans being politically Dumb as fucking doornails.
Will the racism in this country allow for a McCain Presidency?
Time will tell.
I really hope not. Militarily and financially we can't afford to have anymore enemies.

If I was an Obama supporter I would be worried about his inability to win the big states. In the primaries Hilariy won all the big states. How is that going to translate into the national election? Also I dont take a lot of stock in polls particularly in this race and most people are afraid of looking racist ::)
I dont think McCain is a strong canidate and it wouldnt suprise me if Obama won, but again you have to carry at least some of the big states to get into the oval office.

Big states? http://pollster.com/
Obama leads mccain in Penn 50 to 41%
Obama leads mccain in OH 46 to 43%
McCain leads Obama by .6 in Indiana, and Obama may select an Indiana Senator tomorrow for VP.
McCain leads Obama by .8 in FL, and has lost 5 points here in 2 months... not a good trend.
Obama leads Bush state New Mex by 6 points.
Obama in colorado by 1.6 points
Hell Obama leads in Virginia by almost 3 points. NO WAY he should win Virginia.
Bottom line is that Mccain has to reverse the polls in 8 states to win it. And he has to do this with 1/3 the money Obama has, in a receding economy where his position is "The economy is great". It's going to be a tough task. Only a fool would bet the rent $ on Mccain at this point in time.

Hillary lost...she is no longer in the race. ::) Obama will win New York and California, the two biggest states.
I agree that the early polls do not mean very much.

Well he doesn't have to worry about that. He already said he's been to 57 states with 1 to go. It must be a really big state ::)

You really love that link don't you Rob? is it the only one that shows those results?
-

Hilary pwned Obama by 9 points in Penn primary.
Today, Obama is leading McCain by 9.1 points in Penn.
Obama also leads in Ohio, which Mccain NEEDS.
And the trend in FL is an interesting one...
-
You really love that link don't you Rob? is it the only one that shows those results?
It is a composite of all of the major pollsters, is constantly updated, and gives a state-by-state breakdown. It probably gives the best analysis you'll find on the polls, if you believe in them at all.
-
You really love that link don't you Rob? is it the only one that shows those results?
If you click on any state, it documents the aggregate/total averages of all major national polls. It's like the overall national average of state-by-state polls.
I agree completely that Obama is an inexperienced globalist gungrabber who looks sneaky.
I also agree that mccain is a pawn of the repub war machine, hapless and angry.
This thread wasn't about who is right/wrong.
It's about who is leading in the polls. State-by-state polls are highly accurate measurements of how the races are won. In the 2000 and 2004 elections, we knew the winner at 7 pm EST based upon OH, PENN, and FL outcomes. (It took much longer to be official, but Bush was declared winner both times at 7:01 PM because of these highly accurate models).
The trends are what are particularly disturbing. Mccain has lost ground in 15+ states, and is losing FL and PENN, and has lost 7 points actually, in FL, since Feb.
He needs to do something to reverse the state trends.

Interesting noone addresses this here....

I know a lot of people who are gun-toting, reagan loving crackers. Lifetime Republicans of course.
They also work in construction, interior design, or tourism. And they aren't picking mccain, due to the fact they don't have jobs and "change", no matter how vague it is, might mean they change from being broke.

She's not lying. Her pyramid scheme overlords live there.

You could use realclearpolitics as well.
The only site I have seen the trends that 240 posts are pollster.

What difference do the polls make right now anyway?
I heard Carter was ahead around this time by 33% and ended up winning narrowly.
And Dukakas was up 17% around this point.
BFD what the polls say now.

ha! You've decided to go the racist route too now, eh? :P Even your boyfriend dogshit doesn't usually resort to such base comments. You aren't very bright so this was inevitable. :-\
-
I still think McCain wins by 4% in the end.
His tax, foreign, energy, and entitlement policies are nothing but a foolish repackaging of current Bush policies.
I think President McCain would be bad for America the way Bush was harmful to our country.
Negative ads, the republican electoral machine and Obama's skin color are the major factors that will hand the presidency to McCain.

i stopped watching FOX and MSN all day... baby steps!

I think McCain wins because Obama is a quasi-socialist and most Americans are not. Also, the fact he is a Halfrican American and many voters have race issues will play a role. The fact we are fighting two wars and McCain would be a better CIC will be a major factor. And when Obama is forced to talk about issues in debates as we near November, many independents will be scared off. When millions of Americans start hearing about how he wants to raise their taxes, they will not be happy.
-

You said Obama was in trouble with the Rev wright thing.
How'd that work out for you?

lol . . . He's in a dead heat with old man McCain. Sounds like trouble to me.
Wright will remain a thorn in Obama's side until November.

Hilary has got to be singing the "I told you so" song to Dean everyday now.
-

A dead heat in national polls. Do national polls = win in election? No, Mr Gore.
In state-by-stae polls, it is certainly NOT a dead heat.
Read up on the election process. We have thing this called the 'electoral college' which decides the winner based upon state-by-state findings, not nationwide.
-
Hilary has got to be singing the "I told you so" song to Dean everyday now.
She probably would have been in bigger trouble than Obama.

Hillary's negatives would have killed her. People hate that woman. She would have really energized the Republican base.
The "knowns" are a problem for Obama too. He's far too left of center.

In the minds of savy voters in the know i think you are right. In the minds of typical voters not in the know, Hilary or McCain is a safer proposition.
But again, it's the democrats serving up another crap candidate.

I pretty much agree. I am amazed at how close this man is to the White House. He's not ready to lead IMO, particularly the military.

Bush has said that he'll leave the decision making in Iraq to the commanders on the ground.
Isn't that odd? You're leaving the men who make war, in charge of deciding how much was we NEED?
What if JFK had left the Cuba decision making to the generals? WWIII, that's what, Tom.
Obama has said to Patraeus himself, that he'll take his advice into consideration, but that the CIC is the one who ultimately makes the decisions.
I think that got lost in the last few years. Patraeus isn't the decider - the president is. Bush leaving the decisions about war in iraq to Patraeus is insanity that most don't recognize.
-

-
Leaving the decisions to BUSH has proven to be insanity.
whole nother debate there.
bottom line is that bush adn mccain act like Obama hates the military because he doesn't want to heed the advice of the military men.
Those military men - the commanders - are only advice givers. They're not the decision makers. If JFK had listened to them, WWIII would have occured, we would have shot down US planes and blamed Cuba, etc. (Operations Northwoods ring any bells?)
Bush acts like Obama is unpatriotic because he doesn't blindly follow everything the generals recommend.
The generals have a job - make and win wars. The CIC has a bigger job - manage wars while taking into consideration our national budget, foreign relations, etc. Patraeus has ZERo concern with the US economy, how Euro feels about us, etc. His expertise is the war in Iraq. He doesn't have any mindset of the bigger picture - the president does.

None of those guys believe that sh1t. It's all political propaganda aimed at manipulating voters.
Obama will head the advice of his Generals just as McCain will. But the final decisions will come to the pres.
