Is this board still in existence? I saw a barroom brawl, last night, that looked just a UFC fight. Boxing is the real mano a mano sport. Therese mma fighters should learn the basics of boxing and see if they can hang with the big boys.

very few good fights out there and a whole lot of sub standard PPVs unfortunately for boxing
just not into padding the pockets of the promoters for feeding us ONE decent fight on a saturday night
-
Cant say I do anymore. :(
-
I do. My whole week gets better leading up to a good PPV. Kinda like how football season makes even Mondays better.

that is good.
I used to look forward to them.
how did you initially gain interest? how long ago?
-
Yeah this board is still alive. However, boxing has lost a whole lot of interest for me over the years. I would rather watch Chuck vs. Rashad any day then most of the boxing PPV I have heard of as of late. (And I am not that excited for this card) MMA is still going strong and is growing like a fucking weed.

MMA is great, boxing is great. Two different sports dog, both are here to stay. Deal with it.

Boxing will always lose out in the dedate for "one on one fighting" cos boxing is only fighting with "FISTS". (I am a fan of both)

Back in 1997 I watched the original UFC superfights, with Royce Gracie, Dan Severn, Ken Shamrock (when he was unbelievably talented). It was the greatest thing I had ever seen. I had boxed for seven years at that point, and then my gym assimilated into a boxing/ muy thai gym. Muy thai is illegal in Texas (go figure, we are one of the few states that uses the death penalty and likes it) so we had to fight on a mat instead of in a ring to not get in trouble. I was pretty good at boxing, the best in my weight class in Austin, and decided to give muy thai a try. The first time I got kicked in the leg I was hooked. Blocking or feinting away from a punch was easy to me, punches are always telegraphed, but kicks were new and I wasn't trained to read them. Once I started watching the UFC I couldn't stop. It was raw and brutal back them, and McCain had a fit, which was the worst possible thing he could do if he wanted to sway the popularity of the sport. Now everyone that flipped past CNN knew what the UFC was, and it really started to gain momentum. Soon, Zuffa bought it out and clawed through the political battle to legitimize the sport. I joined Austin BJJ http://www.austinbjj.com/ and trained in BJJ under William Vandry, a student of Carlos Machado. William is legally blind from being shot in the head outside a nightclub he owned in Killeen, TX (Ft. Hood) and didn't start studying BJJ until AFTER he was shot. Still, he won a gold, two silvers and a bronze at the PanAmerican Games in competition. Now I train with Rodney Solis at Competitive Training Center in Austin http://ctcaustin.com/ which is a Miletich Fighting Systems certified gym. As a fighter, I look at MMA fights in a different way than the general public. I appreciate the technical aspects of the sport. Of course I love to see someone get KTFO'd, but I get really pumped when two really good fighters are in a chess match of a battle. I love being able to analyze the Lesnar fight and see weaknesses and strengths in fighters where most people only see violence. I understand that MMA is by far safer than boxing and that you never really get hurt that badly. The general public sees it differently.

I wasn't saying Boxing was going anywhere, I was just saying for me it has lost most of MY interest. I still watch Paq fight and a select others, but I would rather watch 80% of the MMA cards over boxing.
-
Not so much since Pride ended.... :-[
-
yes i watch it
-
I still watch it, but not sure how long we can talk about it on here with Ron as the sole moderator. MMA fighters wear way to much clothes for Ron to be interested in it, and I think this forum will be overrun with trolls right before the next big PPV. Ron needs to make a move here, fast.

Nothing yet, but wait until a few of the people on here start arguing about mundane non MMA topics. I am not saying it will be the MMA board regulars, but when the trolls figure out they can say whatever they want on here, it will get out of hand. We need some moderation imo.
-
I watch it but not to the extent that I did when Pride was around. Shit UFC card after shit UFC card has kind of killed it for me. I like Max more than I do the UFC at the moment.

Sincity and Chute need to be reinstated and all will be well.

that's pretty funny shit considering THE ONLY PEOPLE on here that were arguing about mundane topics WERE the moderators

Agreed the arguing was gettin out of hand, but Bluto does shit just to rile feathers. he doesn't care how stupid he is for saying it and then decides he does and backtracks. Shit was getting old!

yes... that simply is blutos condescending nature and you guys fell for it hook, line, and sinker and we all watched the "snow ball effect" and how it got out of hand..

Actually, he shot himself in the foot. The only thing he accomplished was that he just made it abundantly clear to Ron that he has no business moderating this board. Made it very easy for everyone to rally together and get him shit canned. Good riddance. Board's been 100x better since he got de-modded.

Sledog is good people. Shamrock had good hands, good takedown defense and decent leg locks. He dominated smaller/weaker fighters with strength and athleticism. A lot of his subs were attribute based, not position/transition based ala BJJ.

I'll smack the taste out of your 80 year old mouth, old timer. Just like that ex-con did when he punked you!
