You fail to understand or you chose to ignore that owners make obscene profits of these athletes. So in some cases these athletes are underpaid.
One could say alot about your chosen "sport" in which you participate "Mr. Getbig III". Lifting weights, oiling yourself and posing in hopes to receive acceptance and compliments from oddballs on the internet. How regal ::)

I wouldnt watch the Olympia if I didnt workout myself and I wouldn't watch boxing unless I participated in the sport also.
I can learn from watching but it gives me inspiration watching the best do what they do.
I've never quite understood the psyche these fat hooligan soccer players have when they rarely ever play the sport themselves, how can you appreciate something of which you have never tried or atleast played is beyond me.

Sport teaches social skills and breaks down barriers as well as being fun.
To say this is insane. Its liek saying I will never read a bb mag unless i am in it, or watch a film unless i am in it.

There are 2 ways to look at it; it's an economical way to dumb down the masses, sell them irrational attires, beverages and clothing; it's also a great way to make 'em idolate on something that and the of the day is irrelevant....while they do that, the top 1% works and grabs the resources.
A book called "football for dummies" so that you don't look 'outcast' in front the "guys" at the office.

I am not as much into watching ffootball as i was when i was younger. I prefer to play rather than watch. I would likely not watch a football match less i thought it was gonna be a cracker...however i will alwyas try to play a fotball match if i can

Televised sports in the US are built for advertisements. Peppering the game with constant commercial breaks makes it difficult to enjoy. If the pace of televised sports picked up - more action, less commercial breaks, less standing around - I'd be more inclined to watch. The constant breaks in action are also to the detriment of whatever fluidity the sport may have once enjoyed, and it's hard to get into a game that they keep stopping and chopping up. I find football particularly boring because there are only a few exciting plays per game and most of the "action" consists of the players picking themselves up and strolling back to the huddle, being in the huddle, walking to the line, lining up, then another 6 seconds of actual play if you're lucky. Basketball is the most exciting to watch, but it has been moulded to fit the needs of advertisers too imo.
The nice thing about spectator sports is that they are very much a part of the public domain and provide an accepted, and almost expected, ice breaker and conversation topic. "Did you catch the game last night?" is one of the few phrases a guy can use to open a conversation with any other guy in almost any situation, worldwide. In not being a patron of these events, one runs the risk of being, at best, regarded as something of a queer fish, and at worst, of ostracisement. Many is the time I've faced drop-jawed disbelief upon admitting that I follow neither Cricket nor footy (Aus rules), and if I confess that I find both sports as dull as a rainy Sunday afternoon in the town of Dullsville, supporters tend to react as though I had just called their first born "funny lookin'."
I don't have any problem with people enjoying sports though. If it brings them joy, then that's all that matters. I still roll my eyes at dreadfully unfit guys eating cheese fries in "sports bars," and there's definitely an opiate of the masses element to it all, but it's none of my business to tell them why they shouldn't be watching something they enjoy.

The main problem that I have with most sports is that they encourage you to perfom the same very limited set of tasks ad nauseum. I think sports should encourage general mastery of the body, rather than focus ones attention on the score. Some sports that I think are on the right track: gymnastics, rock climbing, weight lifting, figure skating, and free running. Pursuits in which movement itself is valuable for only instrumental purposes I think should more properly be called games.

alot of olympic sports like track and field are interesting because they show the limits of the human body etc. Football dosen't do that, its just a made-up game. Some Soccer players get payed like $250,000 a week from their club alone, its fucking ridiculous.

You can reduce anything to a waste of time and resources. Professional sports and sports participation seems to increase many people's quality of life so I have no problem with it. In fact in my personal opinion it is a great conversational piece and makes life a little more exciting. I'm sure if I was into a sports team I would be thrilled to watch them play and derive some sense of satisfaction if they won. For example, when you were a kid and you barracked for a wrestler in the late great WWF. Those times sure created feelings of excitement, anticipation, hope, shock and even joy. I would imagine for some people the observation of the sporting world would create the same effect.
Life could potentially be boring for those individuals in their jobs having nothing to look forward to outside of their job sport can provide that. A world without sport would not cater to individuals who enjoy observing/participating in competition. On the other hand, I think many "sports fans" become sports fans to adhere to societal norms and be apart of groups. Is there anything wrong with this? no not really. Does the individual then actually enjoy watching the sport? that I do not know as it would involve delving deeper into the sports' fan psyche. However once again I refer to my example of the WWF where I adored these wrestlers and they entertained me to the point where I could not wait to watch them perform.
So my real question to you all is, do sports fans REALLY feel a passion for their teams/people?
or is it a societal creation whereby many people are forced into it. I do not know and do not understand.... I have never enjoyed this phenomenon of watching sport. So I do not understand it although I do respect it if there is a legitimate passion or enjoyment gained from it. Why would I receive little to no enjoyment from it yet another supposedly does? this is another question that arises from this... The only time I have ever gained enjoyment from watching sport was when I gambled on a team and it was a close game.
Please note: I have attended and watched many sports on TV in attempts to get into it. Accompanied by purchasing of merchandise and really trying to gain satisfaction from it. After all how could so many people watch this, how great is it? I want to be apart of it. etc. etc. It never felt right it never felt genuine. Any ideas? I want to replicate these feelings I had as a kid it felt so exciting and inextricably enticing each and every week. These feelings greatly enhanced my quality of life and it was never forced by society etc.

Well, I for one am most certainly glad that Football season is back! I'll watch baseball playoffs too, for one reason...RELAXATION. I'm so fuggin tired of HGTV or QVC or whatever crap my wife is glued to most of the time. I know she's probably tired of me watching the MMA as well. We're probably both a little crazy from being subjected to Noggin (Nick Jr.)! I work pretty hard and now that I have a 1 yr old, I don't get too much time to enjoy TV at all but when I do, I'd rather watch something I want. Maybe if you ever get married and have kids, you can better understand why people like to put their mind on cruise control and zone out some. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the news and NatGeo/Discovery/Animal Planet, etc. but it's a different kind of entertainment. Just my $.02...

The Sports Fan is not only interested in the victory and success of his team, but the also the excitement of the battle; also watching the skill of individual athletes or groups of athletes working together. Much of the time when watching a professional athlete peform, you are witnessing athleticism that is only attainable by probably even less then 1% of the population. The western world was founded on the principles of the individual competing to be the best and to reach the highest pinnacles of his/her endeavor. We appreciate the elite skill of the athlete as a form of entertainment as well as the thrill of the battle.

I was digging through some boxes of old stuff, and I noticed something fascinating… Something that provoked a question about life that I’ve never asked before.
I stumbled upon my old report cards. After each subject was a space for a short comment. Every report card from 2nd thru 12th grade had two words describing my performance - WASTES TIME.
So I guess my teachers thought I wasted a lot of time. Looking back I suppose they were right - for me school was a waste of time.
But then I thought… Maybe I’m wrong… Maybe they were wrong too… I’ve never thought it through… I’ve never asked myself the question…
What exactly is a waste of time?
I’ve heard people say video games are a waste of time. I disagree. Video games can be the best of times.
A woman told me that she didn’t want to go to the lake with her boyfriend anymore because it was a waste of time. All he did was sit at the end of the dock with his cousin lighting bottle rockets and drinking beer. It sounds fun to me. I could spend a weekend that way.
As long as I can remember, I’ve always thought sleeping was a waste of time - a third of your life doing nothing.
My mother told me, that when I was a kid, I thought eating was a waste of time.
My two-year-old thinks going potty is a waste of time.
Some people say working hard and losing is a waste of time. Funny, I’ve learned more losing than I’ve ever learned winning.
The establishment said voting for Jesse Ventura was a waste of time because he couldn’t win. In retrospect, maybe it was a waste of time because he did win. But there is a lot to learn from his wasted time in office.
The hyper-scheduled nature of today’s world seems like a waste of time to me. I avoid scheduling my life as much as possible. When my calendar is full it seems like I have no time.
For the last month I have been trying to schedule two hours of unstructured play for my son and his best friend from school and we still haven’t found a time that works. The realization that we can’t find two hours for our 5-year-olds to play together without scheduling it several months in advance saddens me.
Which got me thinking… maybe all the time we spend trying to get everything done is the real waste of time, unless what we really enjoy is getting things done.
Do you ever stop and think… Why am I doing all this stuff?
Do you ever feel like your sole purpose in life is crossing things off lists and maintaining your calendar?
Maybe if you aren’t enjoying yourself, all your time is wasted. All that time we spend bored, frightened, angry, in a hurry, or unhappy, isn’t that the real waste of time?
For me, the time I value, is the time I have free after everything is done. The time I can spend reading, writing, playing games, walking in the woods, lighting a campfire, canoeing, or conversing with interesting people, all with carefree spontaneity.
Wasted time is relative, isn’t it?
Maybe that’s why my teachers all said I wasted time, because if I spent my time doing what I thought was valuable, I wasn’t doing what they thought was valuable. So I wasn’t really wasting anyone’s time, they just thought I was, because they didn’t take the time to understand what I valued.

Brian Leonard, yeah he's still here, didn't do as much last season as they thought he would, he's maybe 3rd on the depth chart behind Steven Jackson and Pittman, if the Rams go 8-8 this year i'd be surprised.
