People were riding this guys jock after that fluke win over Jardine. Jardine got careless plain and simple and Houston was basically an unknown so he had that surprise factor to him.
Now that he has been expose will the UFC keep him around?
-
he's done. He had a 3 fight deal and lost all three. It's a wrap.
he'll have to go to the minors again.
-
I think they said he was 36 or something which kind of indicates if he's not more well rounded by now he's probably not really ever gonna be........
too muscular....gas's too quick once he's off his feet
-
I thought he had that fight won last night. Once the fight went to the ground I knew it was over. Either Houston's punching power is not what I thought it was, or that guy had a chin. I thought that Houston just signed a new contract? Either way he is a good fighter on his feet to some extent, but will never be anything other then a undercard or fight night guy.
However it sucks that he lost, I would have liked to see him win. The guy has a great story and as an individual I respect what I have heard about him. Raises 6 kids and donated a kidney to his daughter.. That is pretty damn respectable to me. Whatever happens I gurantee an Elite XC or Affliction will pick him up for a couple of fights. HE NEEDS TO WORK ON TAKE DOWN DEFENSE AND GROUND GAME!
Doesn't he have a wrestling background? If so it hasn't really shown as of late...
-
video of last fight please
-
He needs to train just wrestling and BJJ.
-
I couldn't believe how easily Eric handled Houston on the ground, it was like Houston wasn't even trying to improve his position in the slightest.
-
When he landed those knees at the beginning, I thought that white dude was in trouble, but he took it and came back strong.
-

yup !

Damn straight. He had the fight won till they hit the ground. And his takedown defense was great for about the first two minutes. He needs to work on his cardio and his BJJ. Hell, he needs to do two a days for BJJ Mon-Fri for a year. He just signed a 3 fight deal, and one is done.

I heard that too - something to do with a multi fight contract.

BTW, those knee looked illegal. Schafer's knees were on the ground...
-
alexander has excellent stand up, but as soon as he get on the ground he is done for. like you all said he is 36 and he will not be able to get good enough in wrestling and JJ before he gets too old. I thought he had shaffer when he connected with the knee early in the first but he fucked up after that. Like the old saying goes you cant teach an old dog new tricks. R.I.P alexander's UFC career.
-
his contract has been extended by i think another further 3 or 5 matches.
why wouldnt he? he is an exciting fighter and he fights to knock out people or be knocked out.

...or be choked out.
-
He's ground game is pathetic.
I felt I was watching UFC 1 when Houston hit the ground. What the hell was he doing letting Schafer hold his arm like that for the sidechoke...... anyone that has seen MMA rather train, knows the sidechoke is coming.
He's gonna have to be feed chinny fighters with no takedowns/subs...is Kimbo in the house? :-\
-
I thought he had a new fight deal
Yeah, three fights. Possibly five, I can't remember exactly.
Mindspin, I am pretty sure that knees are legal if your opponents arms are both off the mat. I think you have to be at least in three point position before a knee becomes illegal in the UFC.
-
predictable loss why would anyone think otherwise
-
what impressed me was the size of his quads biggest legs in mma?
-
The guy has been outed and exposed in the same vein as Ol Moosy and SF - Like I said before if he got a multi fight deal its so he can be cannon fodder for people the want to elevate.....he happens to be not very good at all and 3 straight losses confirm that.

I wasn't apying attention, I thought he was standing, just hunched over when the knees were thrown.
Was he down?

I would put that down to common sense as opposed to having no balls.

Yes but so would say running away from a fight in the street, but at the end of the day real respect is only gained by facing eachother man to man, standing up.
And in that Houston scores very high points.
-
His pay scale will tell a different story however.
Theres a flipside to that coin too, Houston didnt want to take it too the mat by the looks of things either.

houston needs to fight under special rules that forbids the fight to go to the mat or he will automatically lose

damn shame he isnt good enough for k-1 :-\
he's good enough for stand up in mma though which tells us something about the standard there...

I'm pretty sure the other guy got more respect for winning than Houston got for standing. A loss is a loss
-
Why does Houston constantly talk in the 3rd person and/or constantly talk like there is more than one of him "we trained hard, we stuck to our game plan, we stuffed the takedowns....". Fucking annoying ::)

I'm sure he's referring to the game plan that his trainer and people he trained with had for him...
-
maybe it helps him heal. he didnt lose, THEY lost the fight. great excuse

Its actually becoming a trend. A lot of people are using "we" in pre/post fight interviews

It makes sense to talk about "we" when discussing training or a game plan, as in we trained hard and we developed a game plan. But, once you're in the cage, there is no more "we".
If you listen to Houston's post fight interview, it's a grammatical mess. He goes from "we defended the takedowns" to "I landed a knee" to "we landed lots of kicks". He then ends with unabashed UFC cock sucking....lol.

Boy needs to find his hips, scramble, and learn how to use the half guard.
