If I drink just a few ounces of wine it really fucks me up and gives me a super bad migraine. I cook with it a lot though. I don't know much about it but I always buy relatively expensive stuff (or so I'm told, again, I don't drink it) and fuck does it ever taste good. Saute some mushrooms and onions in it, cook some steak in it... mm... good shit. Even being something with an acquired taste, I just can't picture myself drinking it really.

Cooking with wine is great too, no doubt.
But a glass of wine along with some steak is also great.

All with moderation of course. If I have too much I'm miserable too.

lol I'm just poking fun in Getbig fashion. My gf and I went out with some buddies and her and my friend (really metrosexual, has the most perfect eyebrows and tanned skin you've ever seen), was smiling huge with his girly little salad hahahaha

Maybe I'll blank out their faces and post a picture. It's priceless. The guy is really swole and has a great physique, but it's just so funny. It's such an Asian/girly thing to do. I wasn't making fun of him too seriously, but if he were to throw down a peace sign then the laughs would be rolling in. :))

Beneficial for the purpose of bodybuilding = change of body composition towards more muscle and less fat,
compared to consuming the same amount of carbs but equaly distributed.

There's not nearly enough information in your original question to get a complete/specific answer.

Based on the information you've provided, the answer would be: No, they are not "necessary" or “beneficial” for bulking or cutting.

The only time they would be “necessary” is if your carbs were low or depleted.

If you're “bulking” your carbs should never be low.

Beneficial for the purpose of bodybuilding = change of body composition towards more muscle and less fat,
compared to consuming the same amount of carbs but equally distributed.

In response to this one, I'm assuming that you are talking about not having equally distributed carbs throughout a period of days (Low days and High days) as opposed to throughout each day.

As carb loading relates to “bulking”, the only truly beneficial time to load would be post- workout (for the insulin response & glycogen replenishment). But a carb loading “day” wouldn't make much sense since your carbs shouldn't be low in the first place.

If all of your glycogen stores are full and you have a loading day, your body will just store the carbs as fat (assuming you are eating above your maintenance level of calories).

As carb loading relates to “cutting”, it is my opinion that you shouldn't have severe low days and high days unless you've already exhausted every other option.

BTW, I'm basing my response assuming a "Natural" Bodybuilder. A Natural bodybuilder would loose too much muscle doing extreme low days & high days, whereas a "Drug" Bodybuilder could get away with a lot more on the extreme low days due to the anabolic/anit-catabolic effects of the drugs. However, I still don't believe a drug bodybuilder should do the low/high days until they've exhausted every other option.

I am natural, and I wouldn't do extreme low carb days in any case. What I do on a cut is take a little less in on weekdays and have a high carb/fat day on Sunday. I don't really think that it's necessary but psychologically it's a lot easier to know you can pig out once a week.

The older the Jedi gets, the more he makes himself available to the mind tricks of other Jedis. He knows it's not defeat but victory to be tricked by even greater masters than himself.

That actually helps prevent your metabolism from slowing down due to the consecutive days of reduced calories and kicks it back into high gear.

If I'm working with an athlete for a show and we have to reduce carbs due to a plateau, we still track the calories. For example, let's say we've determined that the athlete needs 2250 calories per day. On a four day cycle (Three days low and One day high) he could not exceed 9,000 calories for the four days (2250 x 4).

He would eat 2000 calories for three days (low carb) and 3000 calories on the forth day (high carb). Total 9,000 calories.

In this model you get the daily benefit of the reduced calories to burn the extra bodyfat and with the addition of the high day, prevent the slowing down of your metabolism due to the extended period of reduced calories.

In my opinion, six days is way too long to go on reduced carbs. The maximum I will allow is four days low before we do a high day.

I like the sound of that :D

I usually do it once a week, so that's every 7 days...6 days low 2000-2200cals 100-150g c & 260-290g p 30g f

OK, thanks a lot for the input! On my current diet, I took in about 1750 cals on weekdays and double that on sunday, getting 2000 cals per day average. Maybe I'll try two high days next time.

Are they necessary / beneficial?
When cutting or bulking?

I'm carbing up right now with poppy curd dumplings and red wine (pic available on request).
Discuss.

OK, thanks a lot for the input! On my current diet, I took in about 1750 cals on weekdays and double that on sunday, getting 2000 cals per day average. Maybe I'll try two high days next time.

I eat 1750 before noon ;D

I would be a mess eating that low of calories. That takes some serious discipline! Props!!!

I've been on a similar diet since summer, but about a month ago i cut carbs & fat a little lower and upped the protein to the current levels. Finally starting to get somewhere, the high protein did alot, but still along way from ripped.

Well, my maintenance was 2500, so I had to go for an avarage of about 2000 per day. I'm not exactly the mass monster. ;D

chicken ?

chicken ?

The original Wiener Schnitzel is pan-fried, breaded veal. The veal is cut rather thin and first put into flour, then eggs and finally breadcrumbs. This coating is much better that any batter, IMO. Finally it's fried in a pan. A Wiener Schnitzel of proper size must not fit the plate it is served on. ;D

There are many variations, e.g. using pork, chicken, or turkey. You can also put cheese and ham between two layers of meat before breading (called "Cordon Bleu"). The one in the picture is actually a pork cordon bleu.

Originally it's not an Austrian dish, it's from Italy where it is called "Piccata Milanese".

If it was anything but delicious, I'm sure it was not in Vienna.
