boonasty's son's dog ate at least 10 used tampons. the vet was called and said to feed grandnasty one half cup of rice 3x that day and the tampons would likely eventually pass on their own.
they seem to be passing with a bit of pulling help at times but were wondering how many days till grandnasty is in the clear so we dont have to hover over her during every time she takes a crap.

That's one dumb dog.

With my dog by 24 hours everything seems to have passed

Briona ate 1 used pad once and was fine!
I would keep an eye on the dog and watch for any vomiting, lack of appetite, repetitive straining with nothing coming out. Chances are everything will pass fine. But if the dog stops eating or drinking and vomiting back anything it does eat/drink, gets listless, that could be a sign of a blockage and surgery may be needed.
One thing though, tampons are made to absorb and expand, I would be concerned this would happen and they would not be moved along in the intestines, especially 10 of them. I would keep a close eye on the dog and the first sign of distress go to the vet.
Addie had obstruction surgery and luckily none of her intestines died, there was still enough room that stuff got through so they did not have to remove any part of her intestines.

Teddy, my old pit used to think used tampons were the best possible thing EVER.
He was a complete ass about it. He'd chew them up good and then come to share his wonderful prize.
If a dog eats a large number of them, there is a possibility of the cotton causing an obstruction. THe sam with the string. I've never seen of a linear foreign body in a dog secondary to tampon consumption, but I have heard of one (my old boss removed one from a smallish standard poodle after I left that practice).
One word of advice, if the dog craps out the cotton end first and its dangling, DO NOT PULL THE STRING. The string is capable of causing a pretty severe laceration to the rectal tissue. Let it pass naturally. DON"T PULL IT.
