this new decade has bands such as:
chemical romance
dashboard confessional
all american rejects??
90's had: alice in chains, pantera, stone temple pilots, ratm, pearl jam, soundgarden, etc.
any 1 year in 80's or 90's had more hits than from 2000 til present
-
lol, okay Boonstack
I'm 27, and I even think you are an asshole for making a thread with that title

60's and early 70s are the golden age of Rock , 90s does have some great music though
-
85 to 95 to be specific
-
Dragonforce - Awesome training music
-
the 90's was great for rock music.
-
as far as metal goes, in the 70's-Black Sabbath, 80's-Slayer, 90's-Pantera, 00's-gotta say Lamb of God or Slipknot. (I'm not a huge Slipknot fan though.)

the 90's was a great era for rock music, but to call it the best, no sir

Bunch of whiney bitches in the 90s. "Waaaa, my father didn't love me." Oh, shut up!
Now, the 70s rocked. Danny Joe Brown would've physically kicked any 90s vocalists' ass.

dude, i am not taking away from 60's-80s at all. im a huge fan myself of all types of music. But, rock in 70's was diff than in 80's. 80's was different than 90's. 90's diff than 2000's. etc etc.
I should have been more specific and said "hard rock".
I dont think joe brown would have kicked danzigs ass:) hope this helps

The 90's had some great music:
U2 put out some crazy, fan alienating work that stands the test of time (compare achtung baby and zooropa to anything muse, coldplay, and radiohead have ever put out)
Nirvana did some great stuff (even though i never cared for it, i acknowledge their imprtance)
Pearl Jam put out some amazing work
Soundgarden put out some amazing work
STP put out some amazing work
Oasis put out two of the most complete records of all time
Bob Dylan released one of his best records in 1997's Time Outta Mind
Dave Matthews Band, band with no electric guitar, was selling out stadiums and putting out number 1 albums and songs.
Rap was ACTUALLY GOOD, with acts like Dr. Dre, snoop, and biggie actually putting out music that meant something, as opposed to the pro black trash music that comes out today. 90's was a rebellion for rap, 00's are all about bitches, hoes, and having your own energy drink.
The indie scene also got cred in the 90's. Because the digital revolution was occuring, everything started to get cheap in a hurry, and we saw a flurry of output from various genres and artists. The 90's were a complete backlash to the horrible hair metal music of the 80's that dominated the pop scene.

I'm pretty much agree with Traps, early 90's rap was great 90's rock was VERY, VERY solid..
But i just can' think you can compare it to the 60's and 70's, so many song writers of that era were just genius.
However the 90's does trump the 50's 80's and aughts (00's) by a very large margin, so overall it was a good era for rock music, no doubt.

80-90's GNR and Metallica... Hands down!!!

funny, i was thinking the same about you "polychronopolous"

i think sepultura also deserves being mentioned in this thread

So by Earls logic a good part of the mainstream 90's did not even contain rock music, because it was classified as "alternative"
It's like talking to the smart ass 9 year old younger brother at the dinner table

there's rock n roll and then there is alternative

Okay then........ what exactly is the difference between rock n roll and alternative?
-
Oh and the best decade for rock was and always will be the 70's.
Hmm. I'm kinda with you on this. I'm old and have listened to music all my life and I just love the years 1965-75. Starts with when The Beatles stopped all that 'Holding hands' music, and The Stones got serious and Led Zepp came out of the gates full tilt, The Who were trashing hotel rooms, Eric Clapton was wasted but was God, Jimi put out 5 seminal albums, etc. I could go on and on. Just so much creativity, by so many groups actually playing real instruments. I still keep up with the new stuff but I just gravitate to this stuff; it just resonates with me. Makes me happy. :)
-
90s was best era for everything...
Yeah, I second that.... And you could buy all the gear you wanted without worrying too much about getting pinched cause Cops could care less about that kind of stuff.
-
pretty much agree, you just can't beat 65 thru 75
-

Damn straight! I'm not that old but I know music ;) Jimi, The Who, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Cream.. the list goes on.
-
Okay then........ what exactly is the difference between rock n roll and alternative?
rock music is good vocals, actually singing into the microphone
solid guitar solos, not just pounding on it
alternative is more talking or screaming into the mic
to put rage against the machine or soundgarden in the same caegory as van halen or led zeppelin is quite retarded

Lol, rock music is "good vocals" and alternative is "screaming into the mic"
Yeah, great explanation....... ::)
I myself, said that the 60's and 70's is the best era for rock music
But your attempt to define alternative music as "talking or screaming into the mic" was really lame

Dude, what the fuck are you talking about?
Read the very first response to when Boonstack started this thread.
Go ahead, cut and paste when I said that.
Don't start some shit, if you ain't ready for the backfire, hotshot.

*Facepalm* How could I forget Cream, or Skynard, The Allman Brothers, The Faces, The Stooges or the Velvets......shit, I'll be here all day. :-\

Exactly. Owned.
This ain't amateur hour, son.
And by the way, Kurt Cobain was a very underrated guitarist AND song writer.
Anyone who "killed" rock music must have had some kind of talent.

haha you were owned the moment you lost your temper over a simple subject like this, is santa not bringing what you want for christmas? ;D
you are a mental midget thinking nirvana and rage are the same genre of music as led zeppelin, rock is dead
i never said kurt didn't have talent, i like alternative music but it is NOT the same as rock music

This is the metal of this decade:
Nile IS badass, but as far as dominating the "scene" like we're talking about, it's not them. I'd put Cannibal Corpse in front of Nile, though.

kurt cobain and nirvana were actually overrated, nevermind was voted the most overrated album of all time. As far as id song writing and guitar playing go, he was not a very talented in either department, he just knew how to make a couple of good songs that moved the people
-

Different times. Back in the eighties you had the big four of thrash and then came the followers. Now everything is much more fragmented. Cannibal Corpse is a great band too!

How many metallers know who Possessed is!!? Very small, yet huge band for the underground!
-
I agree with Boonstak; 90s and 60s were the best eras for rock.
The 00s are pretty good too though.
Bands like White Stripes and The Killers put out excellent stuff IMO.
Also, today, there is a resurgence of 90s acts like Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Smashing Pumpkins, putting out some of their best stuff ever.
-

yeah..lol. I bought an old cd for .99 and I got fucked.
the dude is in a wheelchair all paralyzed now but still sings. Kinda weird.

Yeah, that is a shame. Did you know Larry LaLonde (sp?) from Primus was in Possessed?

Les Claypool is one of the most talented bass players ever to play.
