I went with the xbox because I prefer the xbox exclusive games and the graphics are slightly crisper and more vivid, despite the PS3 having better hardware.
It's the noise of the thing I can't stand.

My niece bought one month and a half later DEAD , Microsoft admitted they rushed it into production to beat the PS3 and that's why it has a host a problems , Microsoft payed out the ass for all the problems associated with the X-box

PS3 online is free because it sucks. The XBox destroyed the PS3 in this generation of the console wars, and the numbers prove it. There are very few exclusive PS3 titles that are considered "console sellers", whereas the the Xbox has franchises like Halo and Gears of War. It also has a much higher attach rate.
The Xbox has a much superior online experience, and will continue to do so in the future (for example, Netflix HD streaming will be awesome once the library is increased). Sony took a bath on the PS3, because they thought everyone would shell out $600 for a blu ray player.
I loved my PS2, and even borrowed a PS3 to finish the Metal Gear saga, but would never consider buying one. Sony just blew it this time.

Unfortunately, the time on this generation of consoles is almost up. Don't be surprised to see the next version of the XBox come out late this year or early next.

How is Xbox live better? I've never played it so I can tell the difference , I'll tell you what I'm a bit disappointed with the games on PS3 thus far , love the Blu-ray played and the backwards compatibility

Waiting on mine to get fixed. Got the rrod 2 months ago and Microsoft gave me a month of crap saying that my 360 didn't exist because they couldn't find the serial number in their database showing that I registered it. They finally registered it after 10 phone calls and multiple times speaking to the manager. The box I can send it back in to get fixed is on the way.
That said, I'd still take it over a PS3. The PS3 game lineup is sorely lacking compared to the 360.

That's the only reason I haven't bought a PS3 yet. The only games that really interest me are MGS4 and Little Big Planet, but I can't justify spending $500 just to play them for a few weeks.

People are already seeing through the bullshit. The video quality isn't noticeable to the layman, people don't want to pay 30 dollars for one movie either. It is technology that is destined to fail.

The video quality is VERY noticeable , I'm speaking from experience I have First Blood on regular old DVD and on Blu-Ray and it's very noticeable , depending on the movie I will pay $30 I just paid $35 for the special two disc Dark Knight and I only paid $15 for First Blood , the prices are coming down on most DVDs
and ALL dvds are going to go down eventually it's all going to be downloads the same way CD's are going down vs MP3's it's a storage issue

Where the fuck do you live, expensive? it's so fucking cheap in the uk, games are cheap and if you look there are good titles, obviously it is not aimed at the same people who buy the 360.
Graphics are not amazing but it's the experience that is new.
Nothing without 2 testes and a hard on keeps your attention for more than 12 mins anyway.

MGS4 is a great game if you're a fan of the series. Be prepared to watch as much as you play, though - we're talking cut scenes over 30 minutes long. As a stand alone game, I don't think it would come across very well. The ending was perfect, though, it tied up every loose end.
LBP has really bad control issues.
Rent or borrow a PS3 and you can blast through MGS4 in a week or two. It's not a console seller. In fact, hardly any games for the PS3 fell into that category.

Microsoft made a gaming system that has additional multimedia capabilities. Sony made a great blu-ray player that plays video games.
XBox has superior online capabilites, superior exclusive content, and superior controller. Sony has a superior DVD player.

When I grew up playing games, starting with the Atari 2600, I always imagined how cool it would be to play against another player with from the perspective of your own screen. Basically, no split screens, or, like in the case of Madden, no peeking at the other guy's plays, etc. Online delivers this, both in head to head competition, and co-op play. Playing against 4-8 friends is a total blast,as is teaming up to play random people around the world. Yes, there are your collection of online idiots who are only there to spoil it, but their numbers are small compared to those who want to play for fun/competition.
From a controller standpoint, which is all subjective, the biggest selling point to me for the 360 are the offset thumb sticks, which fall in a more natural position and are more comfortable. The size and weight also make it better for me, and the triggers are superior. The PS3 controller has barely changed since the PSOne, and feels cheap by comparison.

and you're right the stick really hasn't changed I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it and the Playstation 3 controllers suck because I'm already on my third one previous 2 broke from normal use I still have all of my PS2 controllers in excellent working condition

I think the biggest difference is that there really aren't any games for the PS3, exclusively, that offer great online play. The games for the Xbox, which are just ported to the PS3, such as the Call of Duty series, Gears of War (huge online community) series, Left for Dead (new but great co-op online play), Madden series, Halo 3 (biggest online game), all of these games were made for the Xbox, some exclusive and some are ported to the PS3, have massive online communities.
Personally, the Xbox Live interface is much more developed and geared towards online play, especially the newly designed interface. The PS3 has the same capabilities, but keeping track of friends, sending messages, getting online with specific friends into specific games is a much smoother experience on the Xbox than the PS3.

Great answer, I answered the wrong question.
I would like to add that on the XBox you can see what your friends are doing, whereas you can't on the PS3. You can send game invites to those not playing the same game, and also play while downloading stuff. XBox Live! is more stable as well.

i borrowed my sisters bf's xbox 360 to play gta4 was awesome.
xbox is very cheap these days around 130quid.
ps3 is dear but lots of contract fones are giving them away

Yes. 4 was made by Infinity Ward, who also made 2. 3 and World at War are Treyarch, and are definitely not as good. I didn't even bother buying WaW because I was pretty sure it would suck.

My first 360 got the Red ring of death after 2 years and my new Elite is noisy as hell too. GOW2 , Ninja Gaiden 2, , Left 4 Dead, Bioshock, Soul Calibur 4 Madden 09, GTA4 and Halo 3 and you're good to go. If you are into RPGs then 360 has the best. PS3..Metal Gear Solid 4, Devil May Cry 4, Assassin's Creed, COD4 (free online play), Resistance 1-2, Dead Space (play it at night with a good sound system will freak you out) and a blu-ray player.

Those are all available for the 360 as well. But yea, Dead Space gets a big thumbs up from me as well, game definitely will freak you out if you're playing it in a dark room at night with good sound. They really nailed the suspense and some shit-your-pants-jump-out-of-the-seat moments.
I bought my dad, who's 56, a PS3 for Christmas this year, he bought himself an Xbox Elite last year so now he's all set with his 60" HD-TV =)

56 and gaming means your dad is awesome. 2009 is gonna be a good game year with God of War 3, Killzone 2 (if it isn't sh*t like the first), RE5 8). I'd like them to make a good next gen Manhunt game and make it violent like the first.

God of War 3 should kick some serious ass, 2 was phenomenal from what they did with it on the PS2. Manhunt was a pretty cool concept but it became really repetitive killing guys the same way over and over, too little variation made it get boring too quickly. I remember Rockstar catching a lot of flack for it as well and it was banned in several countries so I'm not sure if they'll go down that road again, but hopefully they will =)
I'm looking forward to RE5 as well, should be pretty freakin sweet.

I think the biggest difference is that there really aren't any games for the PS3, exclusively, that offer great online play. The games for the Xbox, which are just ported to the PS3, such as the Call of Duty series, Gears of War (huge online community) series, Left for Dead (new but great co-op online play), Madden series, Halo 3 (biggest online game), all of these games were made for the Xbox, some exclusive and some are ported to the PS3, have massive online communities.
Personally, the Xbox Live interface is much more developed and geared towards online play, especially the newly designed interface. The PS3 has the same capabilities, but keeping track of friends, sending messages, getting online with specific friends into specific games is a much smoother experience on the Xbox than the PS3.
i dont think madden was made for xbox
ive had a ps3 for over a year...never play it. go skate call of duty (the new one) and madden 09 guitar hero (the new one) and two cordless controls . id trade it for an xbox 360 and halo with internet hookup.

Too bad mine just died over the holidays so I couldn't play Left 4 Dead and I couldn't play it for the six days I just had off. Talk about one pisssed off customer...the thing had to die on my vacation time.
Other than that, yes, you have to pay for Xbox online. You get so much more than playing online for it though. Free demos, free news, previews, reviews, news, events, etc. It's crazy what is available for the 360, plus now we have Netflix. That is one sweet deal!
I'm just sad that as all this new stuff is being released we will soon see the Xbox 720...Microsoft already has a patent on the name. We will probably hear more talk about it in 2009, a preview of some hardware/console in 2010 and a release in either 2011 or 2012.

I borrowed a PS3 just to finish that series, and it was worth it. The series was wrapped up beautifully.
I would never even consider buying a PS3 for it, though. XBox 360 destroyed the PS3 in almost every aspect.
It was expected, though. Nobody dominates the console wars for three straight generations.
