I would have no problem with that. Most trainers don't realize that only 20% of what they do actually produces results. The rest is just to satisfy their ego and false sense of work ethic.

You sound like somebody who's never tried them. From a sport perspective, the movement mimics a tackle in football, a double-leg takedown in wrestling or grappling, and has carryover for strongmen in events like the atlas stone. Plus they develop phenomenal thigh, low back and abdominal strength. They work.

Is you back supposed to be that round during Zercher DL? I don't know the proper form.
-
That would fit the classical term for functional strength. Some guy's will only take if off a rack (like in the second video) and sit down on a bench, box, etc, pause a couple of seconds and come back up with the weight. That would be a dead stop off that bench, for example. Never seen any football linemen do that in regular (I, and guy's I trained with, never did) training, but I am sure there are somewhere. Great for serious strongman training (bolder stacking, etc), with the odd lifts that are required in a contest. Can also hit the abs strongly. Good Luck.

No. People who do it that way need to strengthen the abs, come back and try again. That is a form of cheating it out that inevitably leads to back injury. Zercher DLs should be done with a slight sumo stance so that your elbows can get between your legs and you dont have to sacrifice back form.
Zercher squats should suffice for most everyone though, if you do them all the way down. That extra bit at the bottom is just as well trained with deficit DLs.

You can also check out the Zercher harness on westside-barbell.com . Way easier than trying to cradle the bar in the elbow joint. I've used it and it's worth it if you do these on a regular basis.
