If Bush would have been up for re-election this fall...
And Obama would still have been the Democratic presidential candidate...
Would you have voted for Bush or Obama?
-
Bush
-
Honestly? I would've voted for the third-party candidate, assuming he/she wasn't a complete doofus.
But if it came down to Bush vs. Obama and there were no other choice, I'd take Bush over this guy. Although I might just consider abstaining from voting altogether if that were the only choice. :(
-
What an aweful question. I'd be voting 3rd party. If you asked me prior to January, I may have said Obama. After seeing the unprecidented spending and seeing clear left wing agendas being pushed the past 65 days, I would say Bush.
-
Ron Paul.
-
Yes, Ron Paul! That was my pick in the primaries. Though its more about the ideas than the man himself.
-
RP.
It's funny how many of us who debate topics all agreed with Ron paul.
Too bad fox smeared him to their audience. With a little enthusiasm - or no emotion at all from them - he might have had a chance. on the online polls, he usually won or tied. Viewers liked him best. hannity didn't, and unfortunately too many FOX viewers let hannity do their thinking for them.
I think I honestly would have sent the full 2300 to Ron paul's presidential run. I think I might have.
-
Ok.
I was proably not clear in the original question:
Bush or Obama.
No "3rd party candidate" option.
Thanks.

I would still pencil in Ron Paul. :)

The only reason I say Bush is as follows:
1. He at least would be a check on the congress and they on him.
2. Supreme Court Judges
Those are the only two I can think of since as far as spending and bailouts go, there is no difference between Obama and Bush

Sure, same. His ideas.

BUSH...are u kidding me...mickeymouse...a dead body...our own Hugo, anybody but Barry.

So all of the shit that the administration caused and you would STILL have voted for Bush?
I see...

9.11 happened on Bush's watch, despite very clear warnings 6 weeks out. Maybe he wanted it to happen (fulfilling cheney's war desires), maybe it was jut gross ignorance of job duties, who knows.
All the borrowing happened on Bush's watch.
Obama's spending like crazy, but only because he inherited a 1.1 trillion annual deficit and a falling dollar. bush inherited a good situation with an ANNUAL BUDGET SURPLUS in 2000. He squadered it for wars - at least one of which was voluntary and elective.

Obama is responsible for the dollar falling.
Printing a trillion dollars a month, is all his fault.
Maybe try to reign in some spending and not talk about a global currency.
You might want to check out the fact that any increase in the DOW is being offset by a falling dollar.
China is still pegged to it so American companies can't compete and Obama is not doing anything about it.
This whole global currency is great for china because the US T-Bills will be 20% less then they are now which means China will be making 20% more on the backs of America because of their large holding of Us debt.
-
Those who didn't vote for Bush could stay off this thread.
-
But if it came down to Bush vs. Obama and there were no other choice, I'd take Bush over this guy.
x2
-
Those who didn't vote for Bush could stay off this thread.
Look, Bush completely frustrated the hell out of me as far as spending, immigration, and big govt goes.
However, what Obama is doing completely dwarfs anything Bush ever could even dream of.
-
Obama is responsible for the dollar falling.
What kinda shape do you think the country would be in today had mccain won?
-
What kinda shape do you think the country would be in today had mccain won?
We dont know. All we know is that Geithner and and the Budget guy came out today and said they are open to a global currency replacing the dollar.
-
240, I don't agree that all of Obama's spending is due to the deficit Bush left, thats what the administration keeps repeating to justify its actions. I honestly believe some of the plans are clearly liberal wish list items that are being pushed through quickly under the guise of stimulus to help the economy long term. Not saying Obama doesn't believe some of these programs could help in the long run, but they are not all a specific reaction to the recession. He is using the recession to justify major changes that he feels are good for the country.
-
Obama is responsible for the dollar falling.
Are you insane? The dollar dropped 40% under the Bush administration.
How the hell did Obama do that?
-
With McCain, I am not sure. We wouldn't see this degree of spending and wouldn't see some of the overtly liberal policies that have been pushed through. I think McCain would have certainly been better than Bush, but he was not a real strong candidate.

Maybe not some of the policies... but the spending? Yes... You'd still see that.
McCain was all for the bailout last October and he'd be spending this money now... Over 60% of the economists in this country believe the spending is required... It sucks, but it's required.
McCain would be spending just the same, it would probably just be going to the corporations.

I have been sold on the Schiff idea of what is going on and the cure for this problem.
-
I think we'd see some of the spending but certainly not all of it, particularly the bloated budget Obama is trying to get through for 2010. Your right, he was in favor of spending/bailouts for the financial industry and the mortgage crisis...but not things like cap and trade and universal health care.
-
good point tu>
All of them are/were spendaholics. Bush, mccain, and obama.
Bush and mccain liked war spending and tax cuts, which went to a few.
Obama's spending the money to create 4 million new jobs in america.
It's spending that we all hate... but can anyone raise thei hand if they think giving exxon 40 billion in tax cuts is a better idea than creating $40 bil worth of salary for unemployed americans rebuilding our roads and bridges?
-
Bush all the way...... now, if J C Watts was running on the republican ticket, I would go with Watts. I always thought he would be our first black president. He has left the political arena for now though. Obama is just too far to the left for me.
Bush made mistakes but at least he had balls and was ready to make someone answer some questions about terrorism. My 2 cents!
-
I have been sold on the Schiff idea of what is going on and the cure for this problem.
A lot of people are... I'm on the fence.
I do however believe that Bush was just sitting around doing nothing for a long time and at the very least Obama is doing what he believes is going to help.
People certainly seem to want to crucify Obama for his plan, when I'm kind of happy to have a President who is expressing a plan and showing off some ideas.
It's been awhile since we had that.
-

I think Shicff is 100% correct in that he says we borrow too much compared to what we produce and that our problem is too much spending and not enough producing and selling.

1.1 trillion will rurn into 10 trillion in ten years with Obamas plan.

I myself may agree with you... I'm just not an economist and may or may not be correct.
-
Bush- For the same reason I voted for him when he ran against Kerry. Don't like him, but the alternative bothers me a lot more and will be even worse for the country. Given that 3rd party wasn't a choice, I'd have to stick with the incumbent. Now, I wasn't old enough to vote in 2000- But if I had been, I likely would have voted for Gore.
-
Domestically Bush was marginal to horrible. I disagree on no child, I disagree on immigration. But everything he did foreign policy wise, no problems whatsoever. I have no problem with the Patriot act under Bush, under the Dems, didfferent story. I have no problem with Gitmo, other then most should have been executed long before soiling US territory. I have no problem with Iraq or anything else we're doing.

You love being an imperialist, don't you? Hell, you should love Obama, he is a much better imperialist than Bush.

Why do you give a shit about the rest of the world so much? I certainly don't.
How about fixing shit here first.
-
I don't, but much of the rest of the world doesn't behave well with others. So somebody has to keep their foot on the collective necks of the nutbags.
Decide were ur parents hippies too.

I am not a hippy and my political affiliations are well known. The British thought much the same. I don't think governments, nations or individuals have the right to impose their will on others through force. I believe in freedom and freedom precludes imperialism.

Just for your information $40 billion in roads will not create 4 million jobs,
$4 trilllion on roads will not create 4 million jobs.
People don't build roads by hand anymore.
Most of the companies that do this work are massive and all you would be doing is preventing layoffs.
Tax cuts, reduction of overhead on small business and freeing up the banks from toxic assets so they could loan money would do far more. That's where all of the stimulus should have went to. TARP 2 will help though.

"Anyone who thought the new administration wasn't serious about fighting terrorism better just sit down and STFU! The new sheriff and his gang of euphemizers who won't discuss shooting straight have shown their mettle. They will put the fear of God Allah Teleprompter Jesus into those Islamist terrorists Disaster causing men overseas who keep blowing up creating localized incidents of an explosive nature where innocents are slaughtered inconvenienced in a big way.
WTF people? Do they really think they can change a few words and all of a sudden we are no longer at war with deranged devotees of Islam who are pretty sure what they are up to. They have no qualms about their Global Jihad to impose Sharia law and create a new Caliphate. Sorry for the straight talk there I wouldn't want to offend anyone or make them feel uncomfortable.
I wish this wasn't symptomatic of the mindset of our moral betters on the left, but I have lived among them enough to know that they really believe the bad guys are simply chafed that we call them what they are names. And if we would quit classifying people who do evil things as evil then we wouldn't have to hear the word evil and voila bunnies, unicorns and decaf soy lattes for everyone. To call them dangerously naive is an understatement and these are the folks who are going to negotiate with Ahm-a-nuttah-job, Putin and the Chinese? We are in deep shite"

Yes, S.Korea sucks but I had to actually work there. I suspect our reasons are very different indeed.

See no talking to u..."we're meddling" I must have missed world wars 1/2..the nKorean invasion of the South..Pol Pot..the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait...and the millions of other things we didn't have anything to do with starting.

This pre-emptive shit isn't doing a damn thing and is truly just sucking up money.
Sorry, but while you may think it's ok to pre-emtively strike those who "may" do us harm... That's not how the fucking world works.
It's not about fuzzy bunnies... It's about realizing that just because you don't like someone doesn't give you the right to run around and blow them the fuck up.

Actually the problem is America didn't blow them fuck up as you so eloquently put it.
America could have reined death on Baghdad, Kirkuk, Basra and all those other cities.
Its not like China or Russia would have cared since they both seem to do it when they invade or hold territory.
Instead they took time to liberate a country. That is why it was so expensive.

I didn't give a shit to liberate them in the first place... Complete waste of time.
Fuck them and their desert... I want nothing to do with it and I don't see why anyone here in this country gives a flying rats shit hole if Saddam was killing his own people.
Not my business.

Ur an epic idiot...we forced the Japs to sink our fleet?...We forced the Nkoreans to attack the south...oh what we should have ignored the commies attacking the south right? They're the 8th largest economy now. The head in the sand approach is best left for whats left of the neutered Europeans.

Wow, you are dull.
I said were attacked during WWII hence defence was justified; I also said we NEVER needed to be involved in WWI. Woodrow Wilson insisted that the US become involved in part so it could dictate terms during the Treaty of Versailles. The Korean peninsula was never our business and they should have been left to sort out their own business. Who cares what S.Korea has become as a puppet state and sattelite of the USA? It cost unnessary lives and resources. Vietnam was wholly unnecessary. That's right; being attacked we have a right to defend ourselves and if not we should mind our own business. You have been completely brainwashed.

Yeah, I would have liked to see that. Right now, I think anything is better than whats going on in Washington right now.

My German is perfectly fluent and as for Korea, the reasons why I hate it have nothing to do with women or any such drivel. I guess Ron Paul is lib/hippy wackjob as well? ::)
