The nation's gross domestic product declined by 6.3% in the fourth quarter -- the biggest drop since 1982.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The U.S. economy suffered its largest drop in 26 years during the fourth quarter, according to a report from the government.

The nation's gross domestic product, the broadest measure of economic activity, fell at an annual rate of 6.3% during the final three months of 2008. That's slightly worse than the government's previous estimate of a 6.2% drop in the period.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The number of people filing initial claims for unemployment benefits rose last week, while those filing continuing claims hit an all-time high for the ninth straight week, according to a government report released Thursday.

In the week ended March 21, a total of 652,000 people filed initial jobless claims, up 8,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 644,000, according to the Labor Department.

On Monday, Geithner called for new legislation that would allow regulators to take over big financial firms that fall outside the purview of the main banking regulator, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

I dont get how the economy isnt in good shape.I thought the savior,was going to fix it.It seems all hes fixed is his wifes wardrobe.By the way,it hasnt helped,shes still a tranny.
