Title: People’s Veto is A-Go in Maine

In less than a month, the citizens of Maine have gathered the 56,000 signatures needed to attempt to veto the gay “marriage” law, signed by Gov. John Baldacci earlier this year.

The organization, Stand for Marriage-Maine, says it will continue to gather signatures as a cushion, just in case some gay “marriage” supporters attempt to use some technicality to get signatures thrown out or disqualified, as happened in Florida last year (though a last-minute internet drive helped replace those lost signatures and ultimately led to the passing of Amendment 2, Florida’s marriage amendment).

Because the gay “marriage” bill (like any other provision in Maine) would not officially become law until November, there will be no confusion or interim gay “marriages” as occurred last year in California.

If the veto passes, the bill goes away and marriage remains defined as a union between a man and a woman; if it doesn’t, gay “marriage” becomes valid in Maine.

What will the voice of the people (of Maine) say about this one? We'll find out in November.

This is happening everywhere that the gay bill has been legislated instead of voted on.

I do have a slight clarification to make: The gay "marriage" bill would have become law in September, if the People's Veto hadn't been activated, as mid-September is the deadline to get those signatures submitted.

Now that it's done, it's been bumped to November.

Good.  Let the people decide.  Wasn't the Mass Gov trying to keep it off the ballot in his state?
