Post by: bklynmass on July 09, 2009, 03:08:32 PM
so i went to the emergency room due to flu like symtoms so they did a work up on me and the admitted me the doctor told me that i have congestive heart failure. doctors dont know much about steroids as i experienced this first hand during my visit. Now my question is are the steroids causing these heart problems? please only members with knowledge and understanding of this reply

steroids = muscular hypertrophy..........not compleatly limited to skeletal muscle.

cardiac hypertrophy increases stress on the heart, not to mention the added stress being on steroids takes on your cardiovascular system as a whole as well as BP

now your already compromised heart is doing more work.

im no doctor, but you literally have to be out of your mind taking steroid with this condition.

everything about the bodybuilding lifestyle is anathema to cardiovascular health.

out-of-your-mind

Agree, this is not a good condition.  A guy I knew went in for that and not to scare you but a year later needed a heart transplant.  Dude was a drinker, smoker too.

Time to get the best doctors you can find and live the healthiest lifestyle imaginable, this does not include juice, alcohol or nicotine.

man sorry to hear that....... that sucks because not only will AAS screw with you, but OTC supps can have a very negative effect on your heart also so man the best bet for you is like L2H said get a good pulminary doc. he'll put you through a stress test and that no fun my father has to take one once a year he had cardiac arrest 10 years ago and also a angeoplasty and now has a stent on one of the atreries...... eat clean low fat work on lmoderate wheight lifting and cardio and take fish oil garlic and eat omega3 fatty acid

It is impossible to know what - if any - role AAS has to do with something like this.  Genes, alcohol and infection are the leading culprits of it.

Seriously though, it's time to stop thinking about the short term goals (AAS and looking good) and focusing on the long term goals (healthy lifestyle and enjoying life)

Not only that but if you look at the insert of some steroids they will say used in congestive heart failure.  The most important thing is to have full disclosure with  a doctor you trust regarding your steroid use.  CHF is nothing to fuck around with.  Especially if you are young.  I can ruin your life trying to live with a chronic condition such as that.

What's your medical history?  How long have you been using and what kind of compounds?  Did you ever have strep infections as a kid?  Does congestive heart failure run in your family?  Any kind of other heart anomalies on your parents side?
