Title: Ostrich eggs
Post by: BayGBM on July 12, 2009, 10:38:37 PM
Have you ever eaten an Ostrich egg?  Is it nutritionally the same as eggs from a chicken?  Obviously it is a lot bigger but is it in any way better or worse for you?  Does it taste any different?  I handled one at the store today and I could not believe how big it was!  I shook it near my ear and I could hear the contents shaking.  I would have bought it just to satisfy my curiosity but a single egg was almost $30!

Ostrich Eggs in the Diet

1 ostrich egg is equivalent to about 2 dozen chicken eggs & weighs about 3 pounds!  That's about the size of a medium-sized melon or head of cabbage!  That's a lot of yolks!

One ostrich egg contains about 2,000 calories and is packed with protein

1 ostrich egg would take you about 40 minutes to hard boil!

I saw one show where the guy wanted to make an omelet out of one.  The thing needed to be drilled open.  It looked like the guy was drilling into concrete.  when the egg come out it just looked gross.  Something off, the texture, the color.  It looked disgusting.

I ate a goose egg once.  Best tasting egg ever-- the yolk was the size of a tennis ball.
