Title: Before you die, make sure you've left it all to charity

Otherwise the relatives will fight over it and wind up hating each other.  Just a friendly PSA. Peace at any price

Yes, family members suing each other is always a dick move. Best to prevent it from happening by giving it all away.  That way nobody's feelings are hurt

Or leave a last will and testament.

Or leave a last will and testament.

People will challenge it in court. I am suggesting that they leave it to charity by will anyway.  I've heard that courts are against overturning wills that leave it to charity

Is this something that you have gone through?

Money from a loved one helps people deal with the pain of losing said loved one. If they left it all to charity, i would be sad and no better off, financially.....

I guess it depends on the family.  I know a family in which the brother at the instigation of his wife is suing the sister to get the will overturned.  Neither one of them needs the money, which is a fairly substantial amount. It's just that their father did not approve of the brother's wife and left significantly more money to the sister.  Seems like this problem could have been avoided by leaving the bulk of the assets to chairty and giving meaningful items to the siblings

It's amazing what goes on amongst seemingly loving families after a death.

If my father ends up leaving everything to me, I'd give the rest of the family whatever they ended up wanting even if it meant nothing left for me.  I don't give a shit about stuff.  As long as it's in the family, I don't care if it's at my house or my sisters house.  Can't believe some families fight over material crap and money.  Fuck that, family is way more valuable than money or things.
