Title: Quoting Problem
Post by: YoungBlood on November 20, 2009, 10:49:33 AM

Anyone else having issues trying to quote other peoples posts?
I've always had a lag time between when the quote shows up in the quick reply box, from when I clicked it.
But now it doesn't even show up. I will hit "reply" so I can try that method, nada.
Anyone else having this issue?
Anybody know how to solve the issue? Thanks.

YOU FUCKIN' CARE DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The quotes appearance in the quick reply has been extremely slow for me lately, but now it doesn't even show up. Only on GetBig, no other board does that happen to me on.

Now that I've seen Ron on the boards, maybe he can look into the problem for us...:) His presence has been noted, and now there's no escaping!

Doesn't let me quote more than one post  :(

I can't quote a damned thing! Very frustrating. I've tried Firefox and IE. No difference.

I thought it might be on the client-side, but it's probably a server-side issue. We just gotta suck it up for a bit.

I just noticed that GB uses the 1.1.9 version of the SM forum software. The last stable one is 1.1.10 and the RC is up to 2.0, so a forum sw update is probably part of the problem. Or maybe Ron bumped a switch or something. :)

Ron....isn't this a simple maintenance issue?

You can't at least acknowledge the problem, here in this thread? >:(

Yeh...it's painful. Starting to look like Twitter. :)

What I wonder is how come some people seem to quote without issue while others cannot?
Title: Re: Quoting Problem

Ron, is the reason the quote function isn't working properly intentional or is it because of lack of space?

Would it help the quote function to work if I deleted a bunch of threads off the back of General?   Or if some of us deleted (most of) our PMs?

People are making more posts in order to quote OR you can't understand some posts because they'll quote a whole post and insert answers but not change the font or color or their answers.

Please let me know if I can help to fix this thing by deleting stuff.

What I’ve discovered:

1.) The quote function can be used only once within a reply.

2.) If you wish to insert an additional quote:
a.) You must first open the same thread in another window
b.) Click the “quote” icon for the post you wish to quote,
c.) highlight & copy that entire text
d.) go back to the original window and paste the text in the reply box
          along with the first quote
e.) repeat for as many quotes as you wish to add

It can take an extra minute or so to do this, so you may wish to reserve it for serious discussions like on the Political & Wrestling boards.

Also, the Preview function does not work.

Veeeeeery annoying to the 3 people who like to proof their posts before submitting.

None of that crap works for me. I've tried it. It used to be that there was a serious lag in the time the quote showed up in the quick reply box, but no it just doesn't! I'll even quote it and walk away from the screen for an hour while I'm running errands or whatever and still nothing!

I'm not understanding why it works for some, yet not for others. ::) ??? ::) ???

The opening of the 2 windows works

:)

I guess you could just always keep 2 getbig windows open.  OR RON COULD FIX IT >:(

Can you even quote once?

Apparently, this time, if I opened it in a new window it worked.

Usually I cannot quote at all. If I do quote someone-which I usually do- I have to do it the "homemade" way and; copy the quote, hit 'reply' and then paste it to the proper area, then highlight it and hit the (http://www.getbig.com/boards/Themes/Getbig%20Gold/images/bbc/quote.gif) button. But then you cannot tell who I'm quoting nor go to the post from there either.

*still unable to preview it though*

The only problem i have is when i quote something and my reply goes longer than the original text box, if that makes sense. Then it starts to jump and i can't see what im typing.

Still think Ron should fix whatever is causing the quoting problem.
However, now when I log on, I'm allowed to quote if I use the "new tab" feature on the Firefox browser. Or Open New Window works too. But they didn't when I posted this thread. :-\

Ron, it's still bullshit!!! >:(

Seriously, Ron.  I can think of about one occasion where I've felt this board needed something and it is right now.  The quoting error is making it virtually impossible to converse.

Oh I've no doubt it is entirely browser dependant (likely every single person complaining uses firefox).

I used IE as well as Firefox. The problem was the same.

preview not working for me either but the quote has always worked.  I am not sure if it could be a server side issue since it works for many people.  Maybe version or add on's have an effect

Yeah, I was having this problem, I thought it was me. because I was on my IPhone...But on my PC as well. I just qoute one person, if it lets me qoute at all, and then answer the other person, by typing their name and typing the response.
