Tell me what you know about the Marshall Islands. I have an opportunity to possibly take a job and move there. Just in the early information gathering stage. What do you know about this part of the earth? Is it a nice place to live? Visit? Stay the fuck away?
-
@Brandon, do you care to chime in on this thread?

I could be wrong, but I thought they only tested non-nuclear missiles there.

U.S. Nuclear Testing Program in the Marshall Islands
During the period from June 30, 1946, to August 18, 1958, the United States conducted 67 nuclear tests in the Marshall Islands, all of which were considered atmospheric. The most powerful of those tests was the "Bravo" shot, a 15 megaton device detonated on March 1, 1954, at Bikini atoll. That test alone was equivalent to 1,000 Hiroshima bombs.
While the Bravo test is well known, it should be acknowledged that 17 other tests in the Marshall Islands were in the megaton range and the total yield of the 67 tests was 108 megatons, the equivalent of more than 7,000 Hiroshima bombs.
For the sake of comparison, it may be noted that from 1945 to 1988, the U.S. conducted a total of 930 known nuclear tests with a combined yield estimated to be 174 megatons. Approximately 137 megatons of that total was detonated in the atmosphere. In other words, while the number of tests conducted in the Marshall Islands represents only about 14% of all U.S. tests, the yield of the tests in the Marshalls comprised nearly 80% of the atmospheric total detonated by the U.S.

I've read that The Marshall Islands have the highest rate of leprosy in the world. That's pretty crazy. Good thing it's treatable. Scenically, it does look like an amazing spot.
-
Who the F$%# works on an island?!?!?! Islands are for owning only.
-
I don't know much about Marsall Islands.
Where will you work?
In Majuro?
First off, will you burn bridges by moving?
Lose a good job, girlfriends?
Check out how many tourists they have.
At least I want parts of western civilization like cinemas, nightclubs, starbucks
and gyms.
Only local people=boring in the long run.
If you can get your old job back anytime I would say
go for it.
Nothing is worse than doing the same stuff over and over
every year back home.
If you move:
You will grow as a person, see and experience stuff most don't see.
Who have visited Marshall Islands??
Meet exotic girls and backpacker girls from all over the world
Maybe take a scuba diving license there.
Offroading in the jungle, swim in waterfalls, do some kiteboard surfing.
When you get back you will see that nothing changed back home.
You on the other hand will have more knowledge, experience,
and confidence than before.
Hopefully great memories too.
