Title: Herschel Walker: One meal a day?
Post by: MP on January 15, 2010, 09:02:10 AM
Anyone hear Herschel Walker on Howard Stern on Wednesday?

The guy claims to eat one meal a day (soup, salad and bread) at night, and he only drinks water. Sleeps about 4 hours a night.

I haven't seen any recent pics of the guy, but he's all into MMA and has a fight coming up.

He says he's clean, no roids.

All just genetics with such little calories and sleep?

I would say genetics had a lot to do with it. Through college the guy would get up and the first thing he would do is 1000 pushups and 1000 situps. The guy is a beast

Herschel Walker isn't joking about MMA‎
http://espn.go.com/espn/page2/index?id=4826415

Don't doubt Herschel Walker.

He had a speech problem. He was afraid of the dark. He had multiple personality disorder. He didn't know whom to trust. He got angry for no reason. He was a perfectionist.

And all this happened even before he went to the University of Georgia and became probably the greatest running back in college football history.

"I never listen to naysayers," said Walker, who is 6-foot-1 and 217 pounds, three pounds lighter than when he played for the Bulldogs. "All the things I grew up with made me the man I am today. I learned a lot by my failures."

And that man today is 47 years old and ready to step into the Mixed Martial Arts arena for the first time Jan. 30 to fight Greg Nagy in Strikeforce: Miami.

After a great college career and 14 years in pro football, Walker got interested in the violent sport of MMA. He started really training in September and will emphasize punching over grappling against Nagy, who is 1-1.

"I always loved it, and I wanted to be the ultimate gladiator, so that's why I'm getting into the cage," said Walker, who is a sixth-degree black belt in taekwondo. "Look, I might be 47, but I don't look or feel like I'm 47."

Walker still does about 2,500 sit-ups a day. Reduced his pushups from 1,500 to about 750 a day. Still eats one meal a day. Still gets only about five hours of sleep a day.

"I just can't sit still. I have to be doing something all the time," he said. "I've been blessed with this gift of a healthy body. If I don't use it, God might take it away."

Again, don't doubt Herschel Walker.

Herschel is soooo full of shit....his bogus claim of never lifting weights in HS, no junk food, etc.... while in the NFL was all hyped up bullshit.  He had numerous teammates with the Cowboys who said he would go out at night and get a bag of McD's food and eat it at training camp.  He is an incredible athlete, so don't know why he wants to lie about this type of stuff...

Some of you just don't know what you're talking about.  The situps/ pushups/ running has been Herschel Walker's program since his days at Georgia.  Yes, you might say he has some genetics.  Basically the same program for over 30 years.  Why would he need to lie about it?  Is there some shame in lifting weights?

But hey, Mike O'Hearn squats for sets & reps with 700 lbs, leg presses 1000 lbs for reps, and is perfectly clean.

It's funny what some of you choose to believe............

Hershcel was the greatest college RB of all times, hands down. It was well known that he never lifted weights - only calithentics.

I have an autographed Herschel photo - one of my all time favorite b-day presents.

I loved the Stern interview. He is a hard-working, very rich man.

Walker really isn't that complicated.  He's been doing the same thing probably since high school.  I used to read about what he did when he played for Georgia.  It has never changed.

What's the BFD?

Oh lookie here,

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1125982/3/index.htm

There were no weights at Johnson County High in Wrightsville until the beginning of Herschel's senior year. Coach Phillips recalls, "We finally scraped together enough money to get a few weights, and naturally I was curious to see how much Herschel could lift. I'd hoped to use 250 pounds as a sort of goal for all the bigger players on the team, but I remember watching in amazement that first day as Herschel took that 250-pound barbell and pumped it up and down, up and down, like it was made of Styrofoam. After he was finished he looked over at me, genuinely puzzled, and said, 'Coach, 250 ain't heavy.' "

Phillips estimates that Walker spent no more than six or eight hours in the weight room that fall. That's all, folks. Since going to Athens and bursting upon the consciousness of Bulldog football fans, Walker hasn't trained with weights at all. But he has been strength-tested with the rest of the football team, and his natural strength, augmented by those hundreds of thousands of push-ups, have allowed him to bench-press 375 pounds once and 225 pounds—his approximate body weight on his last test day—for 24 repetitions. Only a seasoned lifter can appreciate how astonishing those figures are, and how much training it would normally take for a 225-pound man to be able to match Herschel's ability to chin himself with either hand. Or, for that matter, how unlikely it is for anyone to have a percentage of bodyfat estimated at under 5%, especially in a body fueled almost exclusively by hamburgers.

I'm not so surprised by his training or sleep habits, but more his seeming lack of daily calories.

How the hell could it be possible to function, let alone as an athlete, by eating so few calories?

Genetics? Natural testosterone levels? Or, chemicals? Or simply a freak of nature?

a lot of people eat one meal a day. They feel slow if they eat during the day i hear. So basically they pig out at dinner and make up the calories for the whole day.

He said that he only ate one meal a day, whatever he wanted.

My friend who I grew up with and have known since I was 8 came by a couple weeks ago.  He the best high school pitcher in the country when he was a senior and signed with the Expos out of high school.  He weighs just 2 pounds more than he did in high school.  Back then all he did was 500 situps and 1000 jump ropes everyday.  he never missed a day.  He has never lifted a weight in his life.  I asked him if he still does this and he said just last Christmas he quit doing so much.  He has a six pack and rides his bike 5 miles a day and does the situps but no jump ropes.

the over feeding of all the so called bodybuilders on here is why 90% of u guys look like shit.......eat natural unprocessed food, cut down on ur calories and protein and do 15-20 mins of intense bodyweight training a day and in 3-6 months you'll be healthier , in better shape and look better than u do rt now

this x 1000 Most in the bodybuilding world are plain overeating resulting in carrying around too much extra fat, taking far too many dumps and being a bloated POS most of the time..not to mention extra stress on internal organs...I am currently 200 lbs, the leanest I have been in my life and maintain at roughly 2000 cals/day....

I have never believed a person should be eating six or seven times a day...I really think it runs your body down eventually .....I don't feel its healthy for your digestive system to be constantly working....to me its like letting a car engine run constantly..in the long run I think it wears the body down

If he sustains himself from having sex or jerking off I don't doubt his hyper activity. When I was 3 weeks without jerking off I felt I could train everyday all day and always had that extra something. Very happy and encouraging personality as well. As soon as I broke the run I became apathetic and lazy.

I should try it again... fucking hard it is but for training it does miracles. I can only imagine how much I'd improve if I sustained myself completely from that bullshit for a year straight!
