WHAT WOULD QUALIFY AS A HATE CRIME FROM A LEGAL STAND POINT? ANYONE KNOW?

yup.  also dpends on certain extenuating circumstances.  Generally a hate crime can be classified as a crime commited on a person or group of persons based on nationality, race, religion etc.

What about a " I hate this tree crime" or how about a "I hate my car" crime. The latter, one runs their car into a tree, because they hate their car. The former, one runs their car into a tree, because they hate the tree. Hate Crime?
