Title: Australian Pro GP X - March 13 2010 - Street posters
Post by: Tony Doherty on February 10, 2010, 08:41:29 PM
Our street posters go out this weekend. They go to 400 sites around the city, rock and roll style. I have found this a great way to create a buzz about the show and to take it to the masses. We did 2 different street posters this year, they will go up side by side. They are about 3X5ft

Street posters?  For a bodybuilding contest?   That's a novel concept.

Have done them every year for the 10 years of the contest. Thanks Tim.

Not trying to be a wiseguy but do you get any complaints?  Some people might consider it indecent or obtrusive if these are in the view of the general public.  Have you selected certain spots like gyms around town or are you putting these up anywhere that notices can legally be posted?

Serious q.

Do you have to take them down? Do you tape them around electrical polls? Any bodybuilders going to be on Tv? Ring the networks. Get a pro on THE footy shows.

you should have put a grapefruit alongside Kai - it may have brought in the more subversive crowd.

That is a good question, thanks for asking respectfully.

I aim to shock somewhat and have had some great reactions over the last 10 years. The posters are plastered everywhere, busy intersections is probably the best description. Nothing to do with gyms or health food shops. I don't really care who I offend, as long as people know the show is on. The way I look at it is simple, people that are not into it, or are offended by it, will not come to the show anyway, so who cares what they think.

If I see a poster for a music show, art display, opera or anything that I am not into, I won't go, regardless.

They are too big to tape to poles etc. I pay a company that does rock and roll, called rock posters to distribute, they have a network of sites that you pay rent on. After the show is done, they just paste over the top of them.

We usually get them on the news shows and always in the papers. The footy shows have not usually started by March, so that is a bit hard to do.

Here are some samples of my media stories so far...

For the street posters we use only 2 colors.

The actual contest poster (A2) is higher res and better quality........

cool posters, like the idea of seeing them all over a city. however the two pics both display same nasty abdominal distension..i dont think that is the best thing to put on display for the general public..

Me too. I think the most "appealing" or "marketable" as you want to say posters for the main public would be posters that display ABS..ABS....ABS.

Dex hitting an ab shot for example or another competitor with tight waist and abs.

yeah exactly, the public love abs. those two posters show some awkward unnatural looking mid sections.

a great poster for the general public

tony, those posters are pornography....gay porn if you will.....jesus christ get a reality check...if that is  what you call promotional material then you need to get a new promotional paradigm.....yes, 'gay porn' is what you have lowered yourself too.....a very sad day in bodybuilding!

You have quite the tongue Tony!  Look, i call a spade a spade...yes, the posters are pornographic but that is stating the obvious.

Bottome line, I find the posters offensive and nauseating.  They pander to the homoerotic culture and promote a sense of disgust and revulsion; something this sport has seen too much of.

Tony, why allow this sport to languish in the gutter?

I think you should use your influence to take this sport to a new level....why continue to support this sad-demise into gay obscenity?

Yes, these posters are just promoting more of the same.

Tony, you seem to be proud of what these posters represent....and that i find  to be the most disturbing thing of all!

peace, Hank Wood.

the footy shows would chew up a pro BB and spit him out...all the whilst the crowd laughing their heads off..

well, maybe not the rugby show, but certainly the AFL footy show.

Sam Newman would have a  field day. Could only hurt BB even more.

besides they wouldnt do it as they have such a strong drugs policy- politically anyway.
