Home survival "seed vaults" are being advertised on fox news.... Just saw it with my own eyes...
non gmo :)
The roles have been reversed, a year ago it was the "libs" crying economic apocalypse. Now it's the Mr.Intenseone crowd...

seed vaults for what exactly? America produces more food than it consumes. Pays subsidies so that food can continue to be grown cheaper than other foods, knocking them out of the price range for a lot of families, and basically making sure millions on Americans grow up on high fructose corn syrup and soy diets.

The way it was advertised was something like: "bankers can bring everything crashing down at any minutes, will your family be prepared?"

hahahaha classic. I wonder if they are run by republicans. that's probably gonna be their campaign slogan.

For the storage of seeds, shame they advertise it this way. People like myself grew up on home grown vegatables and fruit. The seeds that are produced are called heirloom seeds...you then store those for the next year or if you have a year of bad harvest.
Keep thinking that food will always be at the grocery store folks. ::)

All it takes is one disruption in the delivery system for whatsever reason and we are totally FUBAR.
I keep about two weeks worth of dehydrated food on hand at all times and dont even think that is nearly enough.

Slowly build up to 3-6 months, it seems like a lot, but it isn't hard to store. Don't just buy dehydrated food either, get long shelf life food that you regularly eat and can rotate throughout your regular meal plan. This makes it much easier and cheaper to store food. Learn to bake your own bread(the taste alone is worth it!) you can then deep freeze bread, meats, and other perishables to stay viable for a while. Just don't forget to write the date on things so you know when it is getting close to either eat them or throw them away.
Just a few tricks.

I've heard about it. Basically they're selling people unmolested seeds to grow for survival purposes.

I live in NYC and dont have a huge area for storage. I am pretty jammed up as it is.

Get creative...you will be surprised what you can do. I don't have a lot of room either. Prioritize man!

Actually, they're heirloom seeds, which are seeds that produce viable seeds so you can grow crops from year to year. Not that Monsanto crap where you have to buy new seeds every year. Big difference between the two.

The point of the survival seed vaults seeds is to assure the person buying the seeds is that they have not been tampered with in the genetically modified manner. As it stands most seeds bought today are GMO to one level or another. This person and his group of farmers are selling "virgin" seeds. There is no conspiracy or shenanigans. This guy realizes that food shortages are on the way...and the best way to deal with this is to grow your own food.

I'm agree with you, my only point in posting was that everything was fine as far as fox news viewers were concerned under Bush. Suddenly though, a few months later under Obama these dumb assholes are finally seeing things clearly.

Yeah, I know and agree. I was just pointing out the fact that this was on fox news of all places.

Thank you very much!
I really didn't understand the difference and only thought they weren't genetically modified in any way.

No problem. Not many people realize that GMO crops produce sterile seeds a lot of the time.

Are you sure about that? From what I've read people are concerned that GMO seeds will take over and eradicate the weaker non GMO plants? If the seeds they produce are usually sterile wouldn't that mean they're wrong?
???

I'm talking mainly about the seeds you buy from most chain stores. If you are a small farmer or gardener those seeds will have to be bought from year to year. Not a conspiracy, just a company ensuring they have a permanent market.
That is farming on a massive scale. Cross polination is another discussion entirely. Look up Monsanto's terminator gene and tell me that shit isn't some scary stuff.

I'll look it up, I saw some documentary about Monsanto GMO's scary stuff... I'm excited about getting my garden going in a couple months!
