Title: Joan Rivers on Redistribution of Wealth
Post by: Dos Equis on May 07, 2010, 09:50:57 PM
My newest favorite socialite.   :)  I guess this means she disagrees with Obama that we should "spread the wealth around"?

PICKET: In terms of government today, we're seeing this share the wealth philosophy ... this redistribution of wealth ...

RIVERS: Yeah ... really thrilled about that. Go f*** yourself. Could I be any clearer? I worked all my life...all my life, and no one has given me a penny. I paid have every tax. The whole thing, and I pay my way. I don't want to give my money to a third-generation welfare family ... sorry. Go out and go to work. I think the WPA (Works Progress Administration)is the best thing we ever did in this country, because you were given money for your work.

Her father was a doctor so the bitch wasn't exactly self made as far as working her way up the ladder or economic prosperity.

Perhaps.  Assuming her father was a successful doctor with a high income, high net worth, and provided her with adult welfare.

You don't have to be a super successful doctor in the USA to have made upper middle class income during her upbringing.  All I'm saying it's not like she's a rag to riches story.  Most of these "self made" claims are completely subjective.  Look at Warren Buffet.  Although frugal he's hardly "self made".

My best friend's father in law is truly a self made millionaire.  Made his income working as a commercial fisherman in the summers in Alaska and intelligently bought into microsoft and many other companies that were IPO back then.  At the peak of the fishing industry back then (early to mid 80s) you could make 100K in three months.  That's a nice chunk of change to be able to sink into microsot IPOs and what not back then.

I get sick of all these celebrities and other people that claim they are "self made".  And I'm sure Joan Rivers knows the "casting couch" extremely well.  Probably sucked and fucked her way to money like most in that industry.

She didn't really say she was a rags to riches story.  She said "I worked all my life...all my life, and no one has given me a penny. I paid have every tax."  That doesn't suggest to me that her parents were poor or didn't have an upper middle class income.  Just says she has worked all her life.  Her claim is inconsistent if she got adult welfare.

Your friend's story is good.  It's unusual, but a good story.  The more typical self-made millionaires own their business and create their wealth through living below their means, smart investing, investing in real estate, etc.

I have no idea whether she debased herself to get ahead.  I always thought she was pretty funny.

This BITCH is too much... She like so many entertainers, athletes, so called moguls that have made money, are never known to involve themselves in any cause or concern...yet if asked to donate to something their tight fisted jewishness rises to the surface. She has probably spent most of her money on those awful plastic surgeries that make her look like she is having a terrible allergic reaction to shell fish.

What do you think about it?
Title: Re: Joan Rivers on Redistribution of Wealth

It is what is, the problem is with 15 million unemployed, we are too broke to pay for this.  Think about it:  lets say half the people sign up at a salary of 500 a $week

7,500,000 x $500 = $3,500,000,000 a week.

We already shot our wad and regardless of the merits and psycological benefits, we are too broke for this.

R-e-d-i-s-t-r-i-b-u-t-i-o-n...

The Works Progress Administration (renamed during 1939 as the Work Projects Administration; WPA) was the largest New Deal agency, employing millions to carry out public works projects, including the construction of public buildings and roads, and operated large arts, drama, media, and literacy projects. It fed children and redistributed food, clothing, and housing. Almost every community in the United States had a park, bridge or school constructed by the agency, which especially benefited rural and Western populations. Expenditures from 1936 to 1939 totaled nearly $7 billion.[1]

Your messiah could have done something under the stim bill, but instead decided to pay for condom research.

Good job barry.

There was a great article in the Rolling Stones about how the wealthy elite of Hollywood and Los Angeles give most of their money to charity to Hospitals and higher education.  Hardly any of them donate it to people that really need it i.e. the shelters and the poor people.  It was crazy how much they gave to places like Cedars Sinai, UCLA etc. vs. the local soup kitchen where there is a real need.

Ahh yes, so now it's not good enough to donate to charity. One has to donate to a certain type of charity deemed OK by destitute losers and nutjobs. What a sad, sad world we live in.

Because donating to colleges like UCLA is a bad thing. LOL.  ::)

You're a fucking idiot and miss the entire point.  Donating millions to places like UCLA is hardly helping the poor and needy.  It's a wealthy state funded university.  A rich person can donate to whoever they want.......it's a free country........but don't act like they are helping the poor and needy.  What's wrong anyways............did you get beat up in MMA class to you fucking twat?

I agree with you McMannus on the ridiculous idea of donating to universities and hospitals. In both cases neither the students or the patients benefit. In the cases of universities the campus uses the monies to lavish themselves (president, executive staff etc) and in the case of hospitals they may use the money once again on presidents or executive staff and when they do invest in technology, the patient still is often the last to benefit from having it, because the exorbitant cost of healthcare denies them. In both the university and hospital cases, those who donate are often only looking to have buildings renamed after them or securing a place in the university for their kids or to get honorary degrees etc....like you said rarely is it to benefit those who really are in need.

I always look at the athletes: basketball, football, baseball; entertainers of all type but in particular music, all of whom speak of coming from rough neighborhoods or not having school programs or after school programs or living  in sub standard housing etc etc, yet these same people who have made MANY MILLIONS rarely donate more than a pittance to these things. I remember some years ago Michael Jordan being recognized by the United Negro College Fund where they  did a documentary about him, gave him all manner of awards and praises for his skill at changing the face of basketball. The audience was moved to tears over his life and the role of his father etc etc. After making, at that point, literally hundreds of millions in the sport and endorsements, he wrote them a check for a measly 20,000 dollars. All I could say was this cheap FUCKING BASTARD gives 20,000 dollars and yet the same poor kids who idolize him literally put MILLIONS in his hand and in the hands of NIKE from buying sneakers because of his image. Mind you he had a house in Chicago that cost 33 MILLION DOLLARS. He has been on my SHIT LIST ever since and will never been taken off.

People who are giving their money away should give it to whomever they want.  One of the most absurd things I've ever read on this board is criticism of people who give their money away, but not to the people or entities someone like you thinks is appropriate.  You should repeat your "point" out loud so you can actually hear how stupid it is.

I'm rather surprised by the callous & insensitive tone in her remarks. "Go out & work" ???
I seem to remember a time when Joan tried to do just that, but couldn't get any work at all.
I guess she must have forgotten that... I don't know how she could have though.
it was her very inability to find work no matter how many doors she knocked on that caused her husband Edgar to commit suicide, ...leaving her as a single mother unemployed  and unable to get work.  :-\

After what she went through, and the compassion that was finally shown to her, one would think she would have developed a little compassion herself. Her little job on the red carpet didn't result from her talent, it was charity?

How quickly the supposed 'high & mighty' forget when they were more untouchable than the dalits.

What a self-contradicting fool she appears to be! She's all in favour of WPA, but doesn't want to pay for it?
Who does she think would pay the cost? ...or is she in favour of abolishing the federal reserve?
Even then, she'd still have to pay.

Why you are shocked I do not know...Her tone and attitude toward people is appropriate for scum like her who has "made it". Just like the millionaires and billionaires of the world...they have made their wealth off of the backs of the poor and usurping of nations resources. Now that they have "arrived" they look down their nose at everyone else who is struggling to survive.

And oh yeah...maybe someone needs to recant to her the life story she had with Edgar and poverty...

You and SamsonEnterprises are so stupid that it’s amazing. So donating to colleges doesn’t help the poor and needy? Really? So all those students coming from dirt poor backgrounds and going to schools like that are paying for it how? That’s right, a lot of the time it’s on someone else’s dime in the form of the money they donated going to scholarships and the like.

And hospitals are a bad thing now? There are a lot of hospitals struggling to stay afloat. How is donating to them a bad thing?

You are a fucking moron. I’m willing to bet that you and the other clown donate next to no money to charity nor do you volunteer your time anywhere. Of course, with it being the internet I’m sure you’ll deny it but I think it’s safe to say that miserable, insecure crybabies like the two of you are most definitely not doing anything to help out others. Both of you think you’re above everyone despite the fact that you’re two of the dumbest people I’ve ever come across. :)

So what constitutes doing a "good" thing and donating to the poor because it seems anything short of actually directly handing them money or food isn't acceptable for Captain Righteous and the other Muslim dipshit here.  ::)

And the "blah blah, it's the internet so fuck grammar" is a sad excuse for stupidity. Is it really that hard to spell check or look for grammatical mistakes? The occasional mistake is OK but you constantly make them while calling others stupid. It's brutally ironic, ma'am.

EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN participates in some form of wealth redistribution.  if you drive on a road, borrow a library book, or collect a dime of social security beyond what you paid, then you are part of a socialist system.  It's just that we agree on varying degrees of what socialism is acceptable.   And I dont know if I'd call "collective use of resources to benefit all" to be socialism... rather, a tenet of every society.

MM there is a real need allover. Perhaps they feel donating to hospitals and universities have a greater and more lasting impact on society than donating to a soup kitchen. Give a man a meal today, ...and tomorrow, he's hungry all over again. Give a kid an education, and he has lifetime skills, that empower him to make something of his life and keep out of soup kitchens.

Why the anger MM?

We are talking abour Joan Rivers for Gods sake.

333 that is one scary looking picture. Was it photoshopped?

I've seen some really scary horrendous specimens of plastic surgery that will scare the bejeebers out of you in real life, but amazingly enough, look great on camera. I used to think HD digital was gonna be a scary thing, but thank goodness if it will stop the practice of people butchering their appearances with plastic surgery & botox.
