I read an article in flex about this a while back. Would dropping out all EFA's from ones diet be a bad idea?
I mean just eat some fish a couple times per week and have some peanut butter here and there is what I was thinking.
I currently take fish oil 1000mg three times per day with GLA from evening primrose oil 3 times per day but think its waste of time.
Bad idea for health?

It would be a bad move to remove EFA's from your diet. EFA's are essential to health and will NOT hinder growth to any noticible degree.

But if they are so essential then how is it people continued to build muscle with steroids and food throughout the years without this shit? Than you have animal pack claiming its "essential" and nothing can work without them. If salmon covers all your omega three's and oatmeal covers all you GLA )omega 6 and you throw some olive oil in here and there what would you be missing?

i hated that shit...it worked a little, but not enough to justify the pain, and price...

Supplementing with arachidonic acid is NOT a good idea not only for the reason it's promoted (pro-inflamatory ::) not good), but it's also been linked to prostate cancer (causes cancer cells to grow faster), not to mention it can exacerbate a whole host of other problems. Most guys here (bb'g) get plenty with their normal diet (from eggs, red meat, etc.), so there's absolutely no reason to supplement with it.
I'm inclined to agree with you, but it seems like some people who follow the protocol exactly and avoid any anti-inflamatory seem to make really good gains. It seems like if you put X number of people on any program, X-Y=great gains. Kind of annoying. :'(

I'd like to see what those "some people" are actually doing/eating/supplementing. Then again, some people make progress in spite of themselves...

It sounded as if the original poster was worried enough to take ALL sources of EFA's out of his diet because some studies show they hinder the inflammatory process that is and essential step in hypertrophy.

alot of those nuts especially peanuts will actually hinder muscle growth. Same with raw oats that just about every bber eats....because they are high in tryspin inhibitors.
raw sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and a few others I cant remember. A trypsin inhibitor prevents the body from being able to digest protein effectively.That means it contains an enzyme inhibitor that blocks the action of trypsin, an enzyme that digests proteins. The trypsin inhibitor prevents the digestion of protein.
These foods may have protection againt cancer as well as other whole grains, but may actually hinder muscle growth.

I am talking about things like omega 6 fastty acids such as primrose oil and omega threes. Tons of bodybuilders who just drank milk and ate meat and crop.

I'm confused. First you said that these foods prohibit digestion of protein which allows us to synthesize protein. But in the last sentence, you say the foods may hinder us from gaining muscle? ????

Oh please...eat a well-balanced diet that includes plenty of protein, some clean carbs, healthy fats, and fiber and you will grow. I know guys that eat salmon and use flax every single day and they are huge and do not even use drugs.
Balance is the key, without overdoing any one nutrient.

You have to remember to give measurements. When you tell people to eat plenty of protein, they will probably choose meat, overfill on bread, possibly underdo fats, and probably have no clue what foods have fiber except broccoli. This is why we have macros. It makes it SO MUCH EASIER than tracking calories.
