Title: many foods you thought were healthy are not!
Post by: flinstones1 on September 11, 2010, 02:48:25 PM
The first of the culprit is whole grains.

Whole grains and antinutrients
Unfortunately grains also have another dark side. They are filled with a substance called Phytates which bind to nutrients in your body especially things like; Calcium, Magnesium, and Zinc in the digestive tract making the difficult/impossible to absorb.

sweet potatoes
Contain a tryspin inhibitor which will actually inhibit the digestion of protein especially if they are uncooked. Cooking will kill most of this though but not all.

white potatoes
same thing as sweet potatoes but to a stronger degree especially in the skin

white rice
has the grain removed but still contains many antinutrients

Phytic acid is a substance found in cereal grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes that prevents premature germination and stores nutrients for plant growth.1,2,3,43,44 Research has shown that it also reduces the absorption of the important minerals calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc when consumed by humans.4,5,6,7,43,45,46 Phytic acid also has potential to reduce the digestibility of protein.17 This doesn’t only apply to the minerals and protein in the food containing the phytic acid, but also the food that you eat with it.

the antinutrients in the foods above will prevent  multivitamins from even being absorbed. Or some of the vitamins such as calcium and zinc.

it wasnt palumbo!

Tbombz I think  one can build muscle mass optimally  by eating only beef, poultry,, eggs, vegetables, and fish? The human body doesnt need carbs to build muscle cavemen were probably more musular than half of the people on this sight.

Many traditional methods of food preparation such as fermentation, cooking, and malting increase the nutritive quality of plant foods through reducing certain antinutrients such as phytic acid, polyphenols, and oxalic acid. Such processing methods are widely-used in societies where cereals and legumes form a major part of the diet. An important example of such processing is the fermentation of cassava to produce cassava flour: this fermentation reduces the levels of both toxins and antinutrients in the tuber.

It may help a little with the anti nutrients, but there is no denying that one would be healthier to not eat grains.

that statement is too broad.  Grains are good in moderation and when not over procesed.  Fiber is your friend, lol.

Let him sit through a passover seder, and he'll be begging for some fibre.  ;D

One of the reasons not to eat raw oats on a regular basis.

fiber can be found in health foods, like vegetables. no need to eat grains if health is the goal.

i kno it wasnt from palumbo but i bet you your getting alot of your ideas from reading shit over on rx muscle and listening to dave's radio shows and guest speakers, arent you?

anyways,  build muscle optimally without carbs? eh, no, youll grow faster if you incorporate carbs into your diet than if you have no carbs. they arent healthy, but they do have a wide variety of benefits for muscle growth.
