After reading RW Animal's interview, on another thread, I got to wondering...
Whatever happened to the Warlord & Barbarian aka The Powers of Pain? I thought they were a good team, and would like to hear any stories concerning them.

No joke, they do a commercial for the NC lottery. It was being aired up until a few months ago. I'll see if I can find it on youtube.

Barbarian is semi-retired only making the odd appearance. Warlord is still as big as a house and owns his own security company in Tampa Florida.

They were nothing but cheep Road Warrior copycats and never in their league. :)

No one will ever touch the road warriors gimmick.

Sorry guys, it was Meng and the Barbarian in the commercials. And yes they were a takeoff, but that was a good fued. Demolition was a straight-up copycat....too bad, because both members of Demo were excellent wrestlers....Darsow and Eadie.

I actually liked Demolition and thought they were an awesome tag team. very dominant and great heel or face wrestlers. But again, they were no Road Warriors.

Darsow & Eadie were both excellent workers in every sense of the word.

I never thought the Demos were a copy cat of the road warriors. thats just what Pro Wrestling Illustrated loved to say since they were always very anti WWF in the 80's and early 90's.
sure, they had facepaint.
but other than that, they were totally different.
its like saying that Sting was a copycat of Ultimate Warrior.
he wasn't, even though they both had great physiques, wore facepaint etc.

I was looking for the clip of the benchpress contest between the Warriors and Powers of Pain and stumbled on to this: the Warlord's first pro match.
What a monster!

Search our board.
I'm almost certain that somebody posted the BP clip here a while back; although I can't remember which thread it was in, or if the link is even still good.

I heard that RW Animal had a good 500lb raw bench.

I knew a guy at my first gym who BP'd 505 raw AND clean.
He later considered using AAS after an injury and subsequent layoff, but I moved and lost touch with him.
I still sometimes wonder what ever happened to him.
He wasn't muscular, but just big.
Was built kind of like Baby Huey... and had a similar disposition - not stupid, but just a big, loveable, harmless oaf.
He would never hurt you, which is good, because he could have easily killed anyone! :D

I think VKM even mentioned Demo being a copy of the RW's at one point. Plus the Warrior/Sting thing isn't a good comparison as they actually started as s tt called the Blade Runners and both with the facepaint, etc...

Your wrong. They weren't copycats but they were imitators of the RW's. All of them, Demolition, Sting, Warrior, etc. Hell, that is what the Blade Runners were. Bill Watts who was running the UWF at the time said just that. The RW's started the face paint, physiques and aura changed wrestling and the American culture for it. Does anyone remember all the video games and action figures by generic companies that had characters that imitated the RW's? The others just followed their coattails.
The Road Warriors are the greatest EVER!!!
NUFF SAID.

Funny you mention that, I knew a powerlifter from my gym back in the day in Mississauga, Ontario and when he got 5 plates plus per side on the bench, he looked at Greg Kovacs in who was standing in the corner with a thumb up his ass and aske dhim to come over and train chest with him since they were doing the same body part. Kovacs shrugged, grabbed his bag and went over to the Flex machine chest press.

What a waste.
I've yet to hear one positive thing about Kovacs from anyone.

Except for Suckmymuscle who is a Kovacs bag licker and believes everything he reads in magazines but yet has never seen him train. Captain EQ and I trained at the same gym as he did and we witnessed every lift he did and it was no where near what the claims said.

Gotcha.
I didn't know that.
I don't know him, either; I think Suckie is the only mod on the nutrition board with whom I've never engaged in a serious, one-on-one discussion.

Thank Christ for that. ;)
