200 thousand for the winner of the mr.olympia?! that's pretty much laughable! name another "sporting competition" where the number 1 guy on the planet wins the biggest championship in it's sport and wins that low of a dollar amount?

badminton? table tennis? but the thing is THERE IS THE MONEY THERE TO GIVE TO THESE GUYS! that's the problem and sad part.

weider and the like are filthy filthy rich, but they only give up 200 thousand to their representative world champion?!

oh yeah, how is that benefits, retirement health care package coming along too? okay, off my soap box!

Prize money is pretty good for a niche sport.   And stop comparing it to some sports which have television rights.  Jeez.

Kudos to the Olympia team for keeping the money up, and so far, make this Olympia one of the biggest and busiest ever.

i could see it going to 750k with mr o getting 250k.  maybe the arnold goes to 650k or so. i'm assuming the ny pro is considered the 3rd largest but no way they can afford a 100k winner.  all in all...as u said...it's good for a niche sport witn NO kind of cable deal in sight.

that's not bad money for a night's work (even though competitors go through months of work for that night....amongst other "things")

however, it is well known that the real money is in the subsequent endorsements

The cash just goes back into their drug habit, so I guess anything helps.

It's pathetic compared to what these guys have to invest. The drug and grocery bill of a Top Olympian is probably 150k per year easily.

So basically the women bikini, figure and fitness makes money that all but the top 4 men?

if Troy Alves put a wig and competed in the "women" he would make more money [no homo]

that's crazy.  someone posted 10-15k for drug preps and groceries probably run 400-500 week for contest prep which is probably 13 weeks out.  it could be 200 or so for lower guys.  plus some guys like phil jay and nunn have free meat and egg deals.

I wonder how you come up with such a number.

Even if they spend like 3000 dollars on food a month there is no way in hell they are going to spend 150k "easily"

100k gets you at least :

5000 cc of human grade test
2500 cc of good ug tren
10.000 tabs of hg metha/oxy
10.000 iu of hg sth

That would make a nice cycle...

~13 cc of test a day whole year round
~7 cc of tren a day / whole year
~55 tabs of dbol/anadrol a day / 6 months
~27 iu of sth a day / whole year

:D

If you have a good connection which the pros most likely do you can easily double the amounts..

1st place - 5mill
2nd - 3.5 mill
3rd - 2.5 mill
4th and 5th - 1.25 mill

These are the numbers Bob Chick worked so hard for.  Thanks Bob.

Ahhh I missed the "2009" in your posting.

I thought this was your prediction for this year's Olympia... I was seriously worried about your eyes  ;)

Heath looks very good this year, better than I expected him to. Same goes for Dexter

Yo homo!

There is plenty of sports where top gays earn less.
For example ridiculously popular ski jumping... that "sport" really is popular in Europe... sadly - it's more boring than anything.

You can't compare everything to world's most popular sports when it comes to earnings. There is no point to compare bodybuilding to NFL, NBA, soccer shit etc

They use to. Just like the Arnold use to get the Hummer. Not anymore. More money for the promoters.
