Too much protein is a total waste.

I checked the study, it depends what you define as young, the study was conducted of people age 34±3 years and elderly 68±2 years..

The one thing that gets glossed over is talking about the 30g per meal thing, wouldn't that tie directly into the idea to eat 5 or 6 smaller meals per day?  Not that I follow any of this.... ;D

I only shoot for 20-30 grams of protein per meal these days..Of course i can have more, but it's not required

Too much protein is a total waste.

It's can also be expensive assuming you get it from high quality real food sources

Too much protein is a waste because if you aren't getting in enough carbs and especially fat your body will burn protein for energy.  And it is completely myth that your body can only use and assimilate 30g of protein per meal.  You could get ALL your protein let's say 200g per day either in one meal or spread out into 5 meals and it's the same thing.  At the end of the day your amino acid levels in your blood become saturated not after one meal.  If that was the case then fucking other mammals like Wolves and Bears who can sit there and eat on a carcass for hours wouldn't be able to last very long as they'd have to eat protein every few hours.   ::)

You probably have a good point, but by what you are saying couldn't someone just ingest 2500 calories in one meal and then function the same?  Or are you just speaking specifically about protein intake?  And one would need to ingest fat/carbs for energy throughout the day?

Yes actuallly that is what research is starting to point towards.  I suggest picking up the book Eat Stop Eat and check out this site.....www.leangains.c om  It is a myth that eating 5-6 times a day is any more efficient at stimulating your metabolism.  At the end of the day it is all about calories in and calories out.  The thermic effect of food will be the same no matter how frequently you eat.  This is why intermitten fasting is gaining popularity.  The only reason for eating 5-6 times a day is for appetite control but it has nothing to do with "stoking the metabolism".  That leangains website really breaksthrough all the bullshit diet myths with actual research.  Very good site.

"A small study performed on young and elderly...

I rarely find these studies applicable.  They don't usually involve athletes, and they rarely involve elite athletes that do strength training or other types of events that seriously breaks down muscle tissue.  I don't think my protein needs are the same as a sedentary 70 year old woman's...

is drinking a 50g shake essentially the same as eating a 50g chicken brest........in terms of how  much gets absorbed and utilized

I've never been a big fan of studies applied on training or nutrition.

You basically have one study saying one thing and then another one saying something different and contradicting the first, etc

And how can you trust them anyway?

There were two groups, one was between 32-36.. but I don't know/think they were all "athletes"
Wouldn't matter there middle aged in biological terms.  If you put someone that's 20 with high test levels, I'm sure you'd see a huge jump.

Also neurology has a large part to play in this as well. If you think your eating high quality food, versus think your just getting scraps it's been prooven to have an overall effect on how your body proccess it all.

sure, up to a point.  training alone will get you from 300 lbs of shit to 220 lbs and give you some muscle, but if you want a beach body, from 220 down, the diet has to be severely adjusted.

Sorry man, but I gots to disagree wit ya concerning a "beach bod" I have been sub 7 multiple times and sub 5 a few times, and I got there by training ma ass off! AT "anaerobic threshold" training, interval training ala da tabata method, but wit longer intervals, while eating big macs and wendys triple cheese and double whoppers wit cheese. My energy output was so high dat I could afford to eat like dat, if I didnt do dis training while eating dat junk I woulda put on lots o fat LOL! Training yo ass off=license to eat as u please :D

Having a good physique, is all about tuning in your dials to just the right thresholds, for your genetics. There's so many factors involved, it's the definition of something that isn't simple. It's biology not engineering. Beyond lifting resting, and eating half way descent it's all guess work, and pseudo science at this point.

That's why you  have to understand how the studies are set up and what they actually mean, how to apply it to a real life scenario.  Most studies are mean't to be interpreted by the layman.

Who gives a shit about studies, you should be smart enough to know what works for you.

Recent studies of these studies point to the conclusion that more studies are required to study the subject under study.

Dude most people on here can't get the concept that what they see is usually far removed from actual science.

bullshit. You will only find out if this or that diet/training system is good for you if all the other circumstances are the same. Who have time for this?!
