I did 5 years in the Marines. Got out 2 years ago.  Unless you have some really relaxed job, or a high rank you can kiss your muscle goodbye.  I lost all my muscle because my unit had us running 7 or more miles a day .  I have a fast metabolism so I couldnt hold onto any muscle.  Also I was with tanks so they would send us to the field for a month straight every so often and wouldnt feed us much, and there is no gym out there.  Really sucked.  The only people who get in shape are fat asses who lose like 50 lbs in boot camp and think they look great.
