What a step down in competition for Lyoto. Similar to the slap in the face Dana gave Rampage. Still, as far as big names go, Lyoto should not lose this fight under any circumstances unless he is overly passive.
Why not have Rampage fight Forrest-- that would be a very interesting fight and Page would be hella motivated. Then have Lyoto fight Rashad-- put them on the same card-- winner gets to face each other and then that winner gets the winner of Jones and Shogun. You have two rematches where the guy who lost is looking to redeem themselves against top notch talent.
Of course that would make sense and make for a sick PPV card so of course the UFC is going to try to sell these shit matches as headliners for 50 bucks a pop.
-
Styles make fights and I won't be surprised to see Couture wear down Machida on the fence and have his way late in the fight...
hard to find anyone better on the fence and grappling is definitely not Machida's fight.
-
Randy is one of the smartest fighters ever. He will have a game plan for Lyoto.
That being said, I could care less who wins.
GW: Are you picking Rua against Jones still?
-
Yeah, I'm not going to bitch out. However, I doubt he will win unless he catches jones napping and delivers a ko. Who else is on the card?
-
Urijah Faber (24-4; #6 Bantamweight)* vs. Eddie Wineland (18-6-1)
-Jim Miller (19-2; #7 Lightweight)* vs. Kamal Shalorus (7-0-2)
-Nate Marquardt (30-10-2; #3 Middleweight)* vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama (13-3)
-Brendan Schaub (7-1) vs. Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (27-8-2)
I really don't know who is going to win the jones/rua fight. I don't think you're bitching out picking Rua either. I think we need to see how Jones reacts to getting hit and whether he can be disciplined enough to not be submitted.
-
Jesus christ what a piece of shit card. I was actually thinking about going because its in NJ, but with the exception of the main event (which might be one sided as hell) I wouldn't watch any of those fights if they were free.
If Rua can move in and out and pepper Jones with his speed (assuming he is healthy) then he might be able to pull it off. Jones hasn't been hit hard once--If Shogun rings his bell, Jones might fold. That said, if Jones puts Shogun on his back and Shogun doesn't stand up right away, the fight is probably over.

??? ??? ::)
Youre right. Randy never really thinks about strategies prior to his fight.
You should be kicked off this board for such a stupid comment.

Randy's gameplans are always the same with a few awkward fights being exceptions. He will have his usual plan in this Lyoto fight and will get TKOd while trying to utilize it coming in for the clinch. Plus hes almost 50.

Call it what you want...Randy does come into fights with a game plan. Earl was stating that Randy has generally has no game plan.
I'm now expecting much from Randy in this fight, but his game plans and intelligence in MMA are a major reason as to why he is even competing at 50.
Think about that for a minute....He's 50...many guys are eying retirement in their mid to late 30's.

To claim Randy comes into fights with no game plan is insanely ignorant.
One more post like that and we may have to report you for trolling ;)
-
Cracks me up on here these guys commenting about Randy's lack of gameplan or same gameplan everytime.
Coutour is known for having a well-designed game plan when he fights.
Weighpusher: you're spot on about the 50 year old thing.

here is his gamplan for every fight
dirty boxing, wrestle them to ground, win the fight with ground and pound
i'm sure he is planning to stand with lyoto and throw round house kicks, maybe he'll alllow machida to take him to the ground to put a kimura on him ::)

he fights because he gets big pay days, dana hands him title fights, tuffers like you keep paying money to watch his boring fights and you like him because he's a "nice guy"

That's not bad set up for Randy is it? He's a fan favorite for a reason, and I don't think I've ever heard any fighters talk badly of Couture.
I can guarantee you that Randy is fighting because he loves to compete. He's made plenty of money fighting, plus movie rolls and schools, you can be certain he doesn't need the money. Plus, it's not like Machida is an easy payday.
We will never see another Randy in this sport...enjoy it while you can.

randy is a good guy but a boring and overrated fighter, we will never see another Fedor

In 10 years, nobody will even remember who Fedor is. You have to realize, Fedor blew his opportunity to make a name for himself in the modern sport of MMA.
Today's MMA fan can't even say his name, let alone remember him. He will forever be that 'fat Russian'
-
Randy fucking blows. Overhyped old man who has won 2 big fights his entire career. His gameplan is to do the same exact thing every single time against every single opponent. Clinch and dirty boxing up against the cage and hope the guy falls down so he can gnp.
Lyoto is going to absolutely embarass him unless he is overly passive, which I doubt will happen based on the Rampage decision.
Randy being a "nice guy" is probably why Dana keeps giving him gifts like the one he got against Brandon Vera and why he keeps feeding him to top flight competitors like James Toney and Mark Coleman.

The thing your forgetting and Randy has even said it himself, he's just fighting the guys he wants to fight and interesting match-ups at this point. Nobody is trying to claim that Randy has another title run left in him.
He's just fighting...give the guy a break and quit assuming anyone is claiming he should be the #1 ranked guy at LHW.

he will be remembered by all those respected in the industry, tuffers will always think griffin/bonnar was the best fight ever ::)
you will never forget him, a "fat russian" wouldn't be a persons avatar nor would he be the subject of 90% of his posts ;)

Randy does pretty much the same thing because lets face it, it works. He wont be remembered as the best, i dont think he will come close TBH but in all fairness he has achieved more than just about anyone else in MMA regardless of his win / loss record. An inspiration and a worthy inductee into the HOF, his Indian summer is almost over and he himself knows that.
As for Fedor, he may have missed the chance for America to recognise him but i promise you, most of the pre-reality TV MMA world will forever remember him as the best of his generation and any generation before him. Just because he may be remembered as "the fat Russian" it doesnt mean that his excellence is lost.
Most people have never heard of Harry Greb but he is one of the greatest boxers to have ever lived, through any generation and any weight class. It is history that remembers these people and ultimately thats all that counts.

Granite -- great assessment

Nobody will remember him where?? He is famous all around the world from Europe to Asia and beyond. I am 99% sure you are an American that doesn't think beyond your own small minded world in the US. Fedor hangs out with Vladimir Putin, JCVD and numerous famous athletes all around the globe. He has even carried THE Olympic torch!!

You could not be more wrong. In general, the average MMA fan has no idea who Fedor is. He carried the Olympic torch....Does this automatically make him well known? I can think of hundreds of people who have carried the Olympic torch that are obscure athletes not known beyond their small circle of followers of their sport.
But hey, if Fedor wants to continue his career, he will be fighting for the UFC. I am happy with that. He'll no longer be able to hand pick cans.
I have a hunch that this buyout will hasten his retirement. Games up!

He never picked his opponents, his scumbag manager did. YOU couldn't be more wrong, and you need to think OUTSIDE your your little country for once. Fedor is old news anyways and should retire.

Could you hate the USA any more? I won't even report your multiple racist posts due to your very apparent ignorance.
Fedor chose his management, no excuses with his handpicking cans.
Now you're telling me Fedor is old news? What??
Have you been drinkng or something....I know in other parts of the world it's commonplace to be drunk 24/7. No offense. Nothing personal.

Again, how can I be racist against my own people? Where are these direct racist comments? And which race was I being racist towards? (blacks, whites, browns ect?)
Quit going off topic with that shit and talk about the task at hand. I remember watching Fedor back in what 2003?? Its 2011 now and times are changing. He is old news.

We will just agree that it's 2011 and Fedor is irrelevant.

He has already made his impact on the sport and like I said its 2011 now, not 2003. People need to move on with the sport. Its like the delusional CroCop fans that claim he's gonna make a dramatic comeback and take the heavyweight belt lol.

Wait, but he said he was hungrier than ever and has no injuries!

Did someone hack your account or something :)
I 100% agree. AGAIN.

Im not saying Fedor isn't one of the sports greats, I am saying he's way past his prime and people who just recently found out about him should stop acting like he is going to have another career all over again. Its over and his management has successfully made him virtually irrelevant. People need to move on and look forward to new fights and fighters building NEW legacies. All of the greats from the mid 2000's are fading away now.
