I guess you don't remember when he fired all the air traffic controllers which we would find out later made a huge impression on the Russians indicating that he was no Carter and was going to be pushed around. Remember the Pershing missiles in Europe? Bombing Khadaffi and sending him back into his hole for decades. Lifted the price ceilings Carter imposed on gas causing long gas lines. I lived through that. You think the hostages in Iran would have been released if we reelected Carter?
Maybe you remember him just for speeches but most that actually followed what went on in this country at the time remember him for more. Much, much more. He made a huge difference. And a difference for the better.

Reagan was the worst when it came to the environment...except for Bush. When they were fighting to create Redwood National Park in CA in 1968 to protect the last ramaining few percent of old growth redwoods, then governor Reagan said "you seen one redwood, you seen them all."

Mormons as a group are overwhelmingly some of the most decent people on this planet. If someone moves next door to me and I learn he is a Catholic. That really tells me nothing. And this is coming from a practicing Catholic. If I find out my new neighbor is a Mormon that tells me a lot. And in a good way. And notice I didn't have to say a "practicing" Mormon. You're either a Mormon or you're not. The notion of the common claim that one is a "non-practicing" Catholic has no meaning with the Mormons.

Please name a specific example where Reagan or Bush destroyed the environment. A lot of these "National Parks" are just land grabs by the Federal government.
This is where the hard liberal left loses me.
While Bush or Reagam were not big cheerleaders for enviromental issues, they didn't ruin the enviroment either.

I am 52 now and looked at this issue very differently when I was single in my 20's.
While I don't agree with everything in the democratic party, they are a much better fit for my needs and ideals .
As a middle class working man, I don't think that repubican plan(s) is going to protect my teacher pension or keep my medicare in place when I retire in a few years.
Once again, I am not some political idealist and just vote for what I think is in the best interest of the working middle class.
I will leave the political theory and debate on social issue to others.
Politics isn't some game where you cheer for your red team to beat the blue team or vice versa.
Unless I want to move to another country, I hope EVERY leader in both parties is competent and does a great job.

Those pensions/health care you will rely on? Well, the politicians (that were bought with Union dues) that were supposed to be looking out for the taxpayers ended up giving organized labor one fucking sweet ass deal. And guess what, those same politicians that were bought by union dues and union influence have spend a shit load of the pension funds. They also "negotiated" deals that weren't sustainable so they could curry organized labors favor and stay in power.
Funny how that works.

In Illinois, which has been Blue forever has a pension system for state, local, police etc that his about 50% funded....where did the other half go? The idiots that were put in power with organized labors help (to a large degree, esp. Cook county and Chicago) spent all of it!

The republican plan is to completely DESTROY your teacher pension plan, and give you a $15K "coupon" for you to use in replace of Medicare. Once that $15k is spent (likely in ONE YEAR of assisted living, or in the first six months of a major health issue), you're on your own. If you don't have the savings, tough shit. Eat cat food and move into a cardboard box under your local bridge.

Imagine what would have happened to the SSN fund for seniors if they had privatized it after the crash of 2008?
My father retired with a combined Navy and cicvil service pension and was fine until he died.
his dad ( my grandad) also had a similar civil service pension from working 40 yrs on a naval shipyard.
Pensions and unions have built the most security for the working man in the USA!
Many sate bugdets were hurt by investing with the now infamous mortgage backed credit default swaps and the big banks, that went belly up.
