Join the Holyfield punch drunk club, but HF can still win fights, still has that chin.  Odds are he has another fight in his plans.

Man Roy should have hung them up years ago!  I don't understand why or what he feels he has to still prove?  It's sad should have stopped when after his 2nd time being knocked cold!

It happens to all of them. Except for Marciano, Lennox Lewis, and Calzaghe. They all keep fighting. Guaranteed the same thing happens to Money Mayweather. It's only a matter of time.
I can't wait for that day!
That fucking coward of Mayweather is one of the reason why boxing is going to shit nowdays, too many boxer at the elite level that don't want to take risk and cherry pick opponent. Mayweather is disgrace for this sport like are greedy promoters Arum,Don King,De La Hoya/Shefner and the rest of corrupted Head of the various alphabet world boxing federations!
Roy Jones was just like Maywether a gifted ,cocky ,trash talking boxer who cherry picked all his opponent in an era of total mediocrity in the weight classes were he used to be world champion at the time and avoided all the dangerous opponents.
Boxing if want to survive has to go back to his roots : when was dominated by fearless warriors who would take chance in order to remembered as legend of boxing!
I wish at that motherfucking coward of Mayweather the same future of Roy Jones and an impediment speach like the one of his disgrateful punch drunk father!

Yeah he looked really good with the exchanges but I really have to question his punching power after he was unable to put away what seemed to be an almost out on his feet Thompson in the corner.

That was basically the end of Pudz. He really, really needs to get that cardio issue handled.

He should have retired after he beat Ruiz for the Heavyweight title. This was another brain damaging KO.

I agree but you have to understand the fighter mentality, it's hard to explain , that's why I admire guys like  Marvin Hagler ,Carlos Monzon , Lennox Lewis.................et c that retired on top and never came back.

Calzaghe. I was split between he and Cotto as P4P. He left at the very top of his game. Whipped Lacey, Kessler, Jones, and Hopkins. I'm really suprised he retired when he did. Really enjoyed watching him and wish him all the best with his new life.
Yep , Calzaghe is a pretty good example .

The truth is Roy relied on phenomenal physical assets. His speed of hand and foot was paralyzing and it made up for a wholesale lack of 'ring generalship AKA boxing skill. As he aged and his reflexes began to fail him he was exposed as the average fighter he really was. Of course he gave us alot of highlight reel knockouts but like I said he was a specimen in his prime. He blew away alot of handpicked opponents. Against the best fighters, guys with less physical ability but more skill, he tended to look average. Look up his fights against Hopkins, Toney or McCallum.

Its ironic that in his heyday he defended his choice of (poor quality) opposition by claiming he wouldnt sacrifice his well being for the sport of boxing yet years later here he is getting his brains beat out in fight after fight.

Joe didn't "whip" Hopkins by any means and his bout versus Kessler was FOY material but yeah he definitely left as one of the best Light Heavyweights ever and undefeated which in itself is incredible.

He was far from average , the  most important tools in boxing  are reflexes, timing and condition and RJ had it all .

absolutely. i can still vividly recall when he beat Toney in the 1990s....he comes into the ring with same sort of silly get-up on...but when he started to fight.... :o :o :o :o :o :o his speed, reflexes, timing, was absolutely AWESOME :o :o :o, for those here that can recall Jones in the 1990s....he was Extra-ordinary in those departments, IMO sad to see him getting SMASHED bye guys who wouldn't of been good enough as sparring partners in his prime, however as others have correctly said here they all end-up that way....IF they over-stay the Primes which MANY sadly do :( :( :(.

Truly Great fighters continue to win after their reflexes start to decline...George Foreman, Muhamad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson are three great examples who were able to win because they learned the craft of boxing even though their reflexes were gone. Once Jonses physical advantages disappered he did not have the skill to win. Yes, he was an average boxer. He could look great against the right opponent. He was never involved in a great fight either. All of his best knockouts were against no name opposition. With the possible exception of Virgil Hill.

Take Pernell Whitaker for example...Long after his prime he was still competetive with De La Hoya and Trinidad because of his skill level. He was never blasted into oblivion like Jones. Because he understood how to slip punches, block puches, circle away from his opponents best punches ( and not into them ala Jones, one basic skill every beginer learns that Jones never did) and otherwise minimize his opponents effectiveness. That is a skill. Jones speed and reflexes were inherent and not learned, he was and is 'chinny', he was never involved in a fight were he displayed heart, courage or determination....Never in a great fight. He capitalized on a weak sport littered with paper tittles and fought only a handful of good fighters. In those fights he looked average. His greatest accomplishment was collecting a handful of alphabet tittles.

you are obviously a jones hater with your observations and critique (makes no sense). I ask you to go back in history and find the fighter who has fought TOP, GREAT competition for even 25% percent of their career? I can save you the trouble...there isn't any. ALL boxers over 85 -90% of their career is vs non top comp to possibles simply because they have to be established and need to make a name...once established they MIGHT...repeat MIGHT fight 2-3 guys their entire career on their level...MIGHT.

There was nobody in jones era while in his prime that could even give him trouble simply because he mastered HIS craft ..HIS style and had physical abilities you will never see again sustained for as long as he sustained them and dominated his class. This guy for over a decade fought vs probably the most number 1 contenders in HISTORY (and beat them all) and they later became champions or were champs. He demolished them ALL.

You need to get real man and stop hating on the guy...in his prime Roy was a freak of nature and NOBODY could stop him outside a prime Ray Robinson MAYBE.

Mark my words..you will never see another dominating boxer like Roy Jones in his prime...ever. He made champions and future champions look like complete clowns in there.

You lost that little fire inside, I did for quite awhile.......but it's coming back, numbers are going up, shot some hoops the other day with some 24 year old Marine, lifting strongman stuff......it's a level of aggression that you need to reignite.......
