U.S. Is Intensifying a Secret Campaign of Yemen Airstrikes
nytimes.com ^ | June 8, 2011 | Mark Mazzetti
Posted on June 8, 2011 9:45:34 PM EDT by Free ThinkerNY
WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has intensified the American covert war in Yemen, exploiting a growing power vacuum in the country to strike at militant suspects with armed drones and fighter jets, according to American officials.
The acceleration of the American campaign in recent weeks comes amid a violent conflict in Yemen that has left the government in Sana, a United States ally, struggling to cling to power. Yemeni troops that had been battling militants linked to Al Qaeda in the south have been pulled back to the capital, and American officials see the strikes as one of the few options to keep the militants from consolidating power.
On Friday, American jets killed Abu Ali al-Harithi, a midlevel Qaeda operative, and several other militant suspects in a strike in southern Yemen. According to witnesses, four civilians were also killed in the airstrike. Weeks earlier, drone aircraft fired missiles aimed at Anwar al-Awlaki, the radical American-born cleric who the United States government has tried to kill for more than a year. Mr. Awlaki survived.
The recent operations come after a nearly year-long pause in American airstrikes, which were halted amid concerns that poor intelligence had led to bungled missions and civilian deaths that were undercutting the goals of the secret campaign.

I mean where and when does the shilling for this admn stop?
In 240's and other liberal cases, never. They'll be the ones shell-shocked and staring in disbelief when they wake up the day after the election and realize his ass got bounced. Asking, "How? He did everything right. America was so much better off."
-
Its laughable at this point the lengths these jokers will go to defend anything and everything he does, even in the face overwhelming evidence.
Still blaming bush, still blaming storms and bad weather, still blaming palin, etc etc.
Its like a cult.

120 is obviously mental deficient, when has the liberal agenda ever helped the middle class? If it were up to the libs there would be no middle class. Only the ruling class and the equally poor.

Obama Steps Up Secret US War in Yemen
The New American ^ | June 9th | Alex Newman
The Obama administration is intensifying its illegal secret war in Yemen as armed rebellions against the U.S.-government-backed dictatorship of Ali Abdullah Saleh (left) threaten to overthrow the regime. But while the mainstream press has been cheering on the unlawful military campaign, experts warned that it could easily backfire. Witnesses said multiple civilians were killed in an American air strike late last week supposedly targeting suspected militants — an unavoidable consequence of jet fighter and drone attacks that will almost certainly stir up more anti-U.S. sentiment. And the secret bombing campaign has actually been stepped up in recent weeks on orders from the White House, according to military officials cited in various news reports.
What lawful or constitutional authority Obama believes he possesses to wage secret wars is unclear. Congress has not even authorized the strikes, let alone declared war. But officials claimed the purpose of the attacks was to kill militants, some of whom the government alleges could be linked to al Qaeda.
U.S. forces have also been unsuccessfully firing missiles in recent weeks supposedly aimed at an American citizen believed to be hiding in Yemen — a cleric named Anwar al-Awlaki. Despite the fact that al-Awlaki was meeting with top U.S. military officials immediately following the September 11 attacks, Obama purported to authorize the U.S.-born Imam’s extrajudicial assassination after the cleric became a suspected supporter of terrorism.

wow, your opinion on war is "I'm okay with it, if congress tells me what to think".
Do you always base your own decision making upon what congress thinks? You must have been quite the lib from 206 til 2010, right?
Ohhhh, you thought for yourself on issues during that time. Today, you don't want to admit if you support bombing Yemen, cause you're waiting for war machine spenders like mccain and graham to tell you what to think. Gotcha!

I think if we are going to wage war, it should be declared by the congress pursuant o the US Const.

soooooo if a liberal 2009 congress decided to wage 12 wars, you'd support all 12 wars? LOL!
LOL... you have egg on your face from standing with mccain/kerry on the "I support Libyan NFZ" position (which obama adopted), and now you're against that war.
You know it will probably happen again here, and you refuse to say if you support military action in Yemen until the repub congress tells you what to think :)

Look ass hat their is reason why there are checks and balances in our government. You can try to play the politics game all you fucking want, but at the end of the day the law is the fucking law and even the POTUS has to abide.

So all the libs want to arrest Rove, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld for war crimes yet Obama is 10x more a loose cannon with our military and no one says sh*t. They hypocrisy of the left continues to amaze me. Not that I like Bush/Rumsfeld/Cheney either, but my god, Obama is in five undeclared wars right now. At least Bush only had two.
1. Iraq
2. Afghanistan
3. Pakistan
4. Yemen
5. Libya

Face it - your messiah - Obama - is worse than bush and is even a larger war monger in all respects.

You've basically asked him the question "should we kill bad guys" completely without context. What's the point of that?

You're concluding this by the responses stating that they support this action as long as it's done by the rules of the Constitution?

Team Kneepad has no defense left for this horrible admn.

Damn What 3 wars did he start.. and the intervention in the conflict in Lybia.. how many troops did we lose?

60% of the troops lost in Afghanistan have been since your lord and messiah have been potus. Does he own that?
And since when does a war hinge on casualty count?
You are the textbook example of a 95%er. If I had to write a book on 95%ism - you probably would be the textbook example of how otherwise normal people suspend all judgment and rationality in order to defend someone of like racial/nationa origin/ political / or other classification.
Obama could wear a KKK hood and you would defend him. In fact, obama could slap chains on your dumb ass and yu would support him (which he did already, not that you care though)

lol.. but i dont defend him.. i defend being balanced and rational. No one is all one thing.. except for you.. you are all republican.. its actually funny tho.. i have on numerous times expressed my dislike for some of the policies put forth by obama...

Anyone reading the thread knows that's how you spun it in an attempt to deflect yourself from yet another ass raping.
You asked a question without context, and when bait wasn't taken, you started running with this.

Everyone is hip t 240's game. Mal too. Obama's age of Aquarius presidency was not supposed to involve starting wars all over the place, depression 2.0, 40% increase in food stamps in two years, raging inflation, debt and deficit beyond all imagination, misery index surpassing Carter, etc.
Hope & Change assholes - you morons voted for this - not own it.
P.S. Nobel Peace prize anyone?

US drone attacks in Yemen ignore Al Qaeda for local militants
The National (UAE) ^ | Jun 21, 2011 | Hakim Almasmari
Government raids and US drone attacks in Yemen are focusing on Islamic militant targets in Abyan province, ignoring the more dangerous Al Qaeda stronghold of Shabwa province, a senior defence ministry official said yesterday.
Among the targets has been the Jaar farm of Khaled Abdul Nabi, considered one of the most powerful Islamic militants in Yemen since the early 1990s, according to the interior ministry.
...Last week, the interior ministry said it arrested 10 militants in Aden believed to be fighters with links to Mr Nabi.
Qasem Bin Hadi, head of security in Zinjibar, Abyan, said that the majority of the militants killed were terrorists.
...Abyan has turned into a ghost town and that clashes between government forces and militants are non-stop.
Critics feel this is a dangerous escalation in Yemen's fight against terror.
Ali Abdul Jabbar, director of Dar Ashraf Research Centre in Sana'a, said: "There are thousands of Islamic militants in the south, but only 200-300 Al Qaeda members. The militants are more moderate than Al Qaeda but the government considers them a risk."
Mr Abdul Jabbar said Islamic militants in Abyan have never harmed US interests in the region but this could change after the continuous US drone attacks...
Militants have taken over the majority of Lahj province over the last week and entered Yemen's business capital, Aden.
Nabil Bukairi, director of the Abaad Research Centre in Sana'a, said: "You cannot fight an entire country. The ideology of jihad is wide spread in the south, and to uproot it, you would have to kill millions of people.
"This is the beginning of a long war that will kill thousands and solve nothing."

Jesus fucking christ, quit with the fucking "333 is a male. Males have killed other humans. Therefore 333 kills people. Is that what you're saying 33??? You are a male, right? Admit it!" bullshit.
He said he's AGAINST the US going to war against the US Constitution without congressional approval.
That has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with being for every single act of war that congress approves.
There is a difference between an absolute stance and situational stances.
I can't speak for 33, but since he's not being even the slightest bit ambiguous in his stance and since most of us learn the difference between absolute values and situational considerations by kindergarten, I'm pretty sure he feels similar to my stance on the matter:
I'm AGAINST the US going to war in violation of our constitution. That means that I'm against going to war without congressional approval as part of that absolute.
If there IS congressional approval AND there is no violation of the constitution, i.e., when I must make "situational considerations" on a declaration of war in which no violation of my "absolute value" on following the constitution occurred, I make a decision based on the GIVEN SITUATIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES.
For the life of me, I can't understand how a man in his 30s can continue to write post after post after post of the same entirely unrelated jumps in logic like "So you are for EVERY SINGLE WAR that congress approves because you don't want the president to violate the constitution???" and think it "deserves" a reply. I just don't understand it?

Unfortunately, you're trying to reason with a guy who thinks there is a big conspiracy to indiscriminately kill as many Libyans as possible. :-\
