Interest rates were dropped way too low for way too long causing a credit bubble. Ask japan how long it takes to recover from a bubble they are still trying to figure that out 22 years after their one burst.

I think that's largely a myth.  I don' think any significant amount of people voted for Obama to prove they were not racist.  People don't see you vote anyway.  If they were worried about that, which sounds silly, they could just say they voted for Obama and nobody would know.
