Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian Prime Minister, has resigned from his post as his country remains embroiled in a debt crisis.

Berlusconi resigned after the country's parliament passed a controversial austerity package in order to combat the economic crisis that is enveloping the country.

Al Jazeera's Emma Hayward reports from Rome, the Italian capital, on the political career of the media mogul-turned-politician.
