Posted on February 15, 2012 Obama: Rising Gas Prices Means The Economy Is Strengthening
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/02/15/obama_gas_prices_on_the_rise_means_the_economy_is_strengthening.html
At a press event on the payroll tax cut yesterday, President Obama mentioned how extending the proposal would help Americans pay for gas as the price increases.
Obama attributed the growing price of oil to a strengthening economy which in turn means demand for oil increases.
"And when gas prices are on the rise again because as the economy strengthens, global demand for oil increases. And if we start seeing significant increases in gas prices, losing that $40 could not come at a worse time," Obama said.

Jesus fucking Christ, this man is fucking shameless...
Blatant way to try and spin this into a propoganda victory.
This is fucking amazing to me that he's actually turning this around. I mean, Id like to think voters would see through this... but history has shown me that theyll buy it hook line and sinker.

Funny!
The left-winged goofies weren't praising the greatness of the economy in 2008, when gas was over $4 a gallon.

If gas hits $5 the US economy will grind to a standstill so fuckig fast it will almost be comical. Of course, "Mr. MBA" 240 thinks that will be bullish for the Usurper's reelection prospects.

i'm sure 180 will blame bush and issa some how.

$5 dollar gas is game over, totally game over.
I have to giggle at the "strengthening economy", built on a shrinking labor force, stagnant/declining wages, job growth gains on temp and low wage jobs, 16% real U.E. rate, inflation and 350k+ U.I. claims......
$5 gas will smash what is left of the shrinking purchasing power of the middle-class, totally kill the lower-class and cause price spikes in everything anyone needs to buy.
What an idiot, but he knows what he is spewing is bullshit.

Right?
Imagine the costs on everything.. food.. fuel... anything that is transported via oil based vehicles... Imagine all the truckers going out of work...
The whole country will stop.
And for what? So Obama can try and force his ideal "green" vehicles down our throat?
Pretty bad when a leader is willing to absolutley shut down his whole countries economy to try and force a change down the pipe before its time.
I swear the man is fucking incompetent.
He has all these big idea's on what "should be", but no actual knowledge of how vast and far reaching the consequences of forcing these change would be.

Gas was almost $5 under Bush and then the economy went into a free fall as did the price of gas
I guess it's only relevent when prices are going down

Are you trying to claim that the economy stronger under Bush before the recession than it ever has been under Obama after him or Clinton before him? Interesting.

nope
just saying prices were higher under Bush and then tanked when the economy tanked so when the economy is doing bad demand for gas is lower and prices go down
that's it

Demand is already down now. Price is a result of inflation, epa mandates, refinieries shutting down, foreign bs.

I'd say shit happening with Iran is part of it
certain parts of the economy are doing better
my biz is on fire right now which is part of the reason I haven't been on this site (opportunity cost is too great)

I miss you, Straw Man!
But anyways, very loose monetary policy, QE etc has a big part to play as well. The gigantic spike a few years back was due to the Govt/Fed shoving free money down the the banks/investment houses collective throats....they were supposed to "lend it out" or whatever silliness the Govt. shat out but instead they took it and bid the price up to the stratosphere.
5 dollar gas will be game over for an already very weak economy.
Remember, folks, nothing has really changed from the beginning of the crisis.

I'll repeat...
So you're saying that before the recession, the economy was better under Bush than it is now under Obama.
That is the undeniable logical conclusion of what you're saying.

in 2002....sure
in 2007 and 2008 it was starting to collapse and in the last month it was full blown friggin disaster (have you forgotten already?)
you can arrive at any "undeniable" conclusion that you'd like

When shithead was running for office be was blaming Bush and his "oil buddies" for the cost of gas. Since president shithead took office gas has more than doubled. Oh wait....lemme guess. This too is Bushs fault ::)

I don't remember Obama blaming Bush and his oil buddies
Did Rush tell you that?

But gas prices were high in 2007, so if your original statement is correct, then the economy was very strong then, right??

here is my original statement

I said that when the economy went into free fall so did the price of gas
The RE bubble didn't pop until late 2007 and we didn't start feeling the effects until 2008 and we're feeling the effects right now more than we ever did then
I never said or inferred that gas prices (up or down) were "solely" evidence of a strong economy or a bad economy
I merely pointed out that we had higher gas prices under Bush and when the global economic shit storm started the price of gas went down

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
did he just blame Bush or did he blame all politicians and administrations (both Dem and Repub) since the 1970's for not pursuing alternative energy sources
-
:). There is no such thing as alternative energy. Also he did blame bush and cheney.

and every other POTUS since the 1970's
just like virtually every candidate in the current race blames every other politician and tells you how they would have done it
btw - don't worry about it
I'm sure he'll be resigning any day now

go to around the 1:38 mark and he says "we know this problem goes deeper than the Bush Administration" and then goes on to cite POTUS's all the way back to Nixon
-
What about the part where he blames bush and Cheney and the oil companies?
BTW - there is no such thing as alternative energy. Obama has pissed awa billions of dollars and what do we have to show for. It?
