Title: I'm thinking about joining the YMCA?
Post by: Roger Bacon on October 03, 2012, 09:25:46 PM
Young Mens Christian Association... No Muslims or Jews Right?  Looks like it's milf city, but it does seem like there's some minorities milling about.

Dumbbells go to 125 pounds.  Cardio Equipment looks pretty nice.

Should I join?

???

Our YMCA is full of illegal Mexicans that don't shower and dont wipe their sweat up off anything, crowd the shit outta the place, and generally are rude and obnoxious, all while their kids are crammed shoulder to shoulder in the pool.

I appreciate the warning, I went to check it out in the morning when most of these people were in bed, at school, or installing a roof or deck somewhere!  :-\

Yeah, you need to check it out at the time you're going to train at.
Location and demographics make a big difference too. All the illegals come here to work on the farms. You may not have that problem, depending on your areas level of infestation.

Buy a short guest pass or go at few different times to gauge the gym as mentioned, YMCA's can be great or horrible. You won't know till you're there a bit.

Yes, but you bathe and use deodorant, correct? And you don't drop off your children at a 5:1 ratio in the pool while you workout, and then leave them in the pool to fend for themselves when you go home?

The "Y" really changed since I used to go back in 1983.
The one in Lawrence, MA had the weight room in the basement, old school equipment, dark, dripping pipes, etc.
These days they are all fixed up, new equipment, etc.. Guest pass and try it out is the way to go.

The downtown YMCA in Houston was the greatest gym I was ever a member of.

Just visit them for a test drive and keep your eyes open, that's the best way to find out.

Our one YMCA was AWESOME with tons of people, bodybuilders, hot girls and moms, rich people lol all those wonderful things.. It is funny, they spent something like $3 million renovating it but then had income based memberships come right after that. So the place is filled with ex-cons, illegals, etc. All that money and they didn't spend more than $50 in the weight room downstairs(originally the main part of the Y), built something upstairs with by far the nicest cardio equipment I have ever seen and some random weights. Pretty much if you go downstairs its like a scene from Oz, but the upstairs is still kind of normal, minus every person who looks half way fit that was originally there.

What is the typical yearly dues for YMCA's in the US cost?   Here in Canada, YMCA generally costs $800/year in most places.

Young man, there's no need to feel down
I said young man, pick yourself off the ground
I said young man, 'cause your in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy

Young man, there's a place you can go
I said young man, when you're short on your dough
You can stay there and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A
They have everything for young men to enjoy
You can hang out with all the boys

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
You can get yourself clean you can have a good meal
You can do whatever you feel

Young man, are you listening to me
I said young man, what do you wanna be
I said young man, you can make real your dreams
But you've got to know this one thing

No man does it all by himself
I said young man, put your pride on the shelf
(From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/v/village-people-lyrics/ymca-lyrics.html)
And just go there to the Y.M.C.A.
I'm sure they can help you today

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
You can get yourself clean you can have a good meal
You can do whatever you feel

Young Man, I was once in your shoes
I said I was, down and out with the blues
I felt no man cared if I were alive
I felt the whole world was so jive

That's when someone came up to me
And said young man take a walk up the street
There's a place there called the Y.M.C.A.
They can start you back on your way

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
Young man, young man there's no need to feel down
Young man, young man pick yourself off the ground

Y.M.C.A. and just go to the Y.M.C.A.
