Woolwich attack: troops advised not to wear uniform outside bases
Commanders have advised troops not to wear uniform travelling to and from work or outside bases following the brutal killing of a member of the military close to Woolwich barracks.

I don't mean to be insensitive, but who doesn't want to change out of their work clothes ASAP? I think it is funny seeing cops buy beer in uniform and shit, and they are probably breaking rules by doing it most of the time. I think if you see two guys wearing military stuff in a bar, it isn't any more impressive than seeing two dudes wearing uniforms from a trash disposal company. It's a job that you at least partially choose. And if it mkes you safer, that's a positive.
If anything the can dick around for several minutes changing clothes and get paid. I know a lot of police departments do this now too. It seems to me at times that military people like to wear their gear to get sucked off by the public. I think I would rather be safer in public, even to a slight degree, than have somebody at a Shell station give me a free 32 oz Mt. Dew.

If someone's car was being smashed up in a quiet cul de sac, probably 1 out of 20 blokes in the street would actually open his door and step out. The rest would be tweeting pictures of it and hashtagging it.

I have carried a concealed weapon about 95% time I am in public since about 1991 and taught classes in combat hand gunning. There is no easy answer when confronted with this kind of scene. My first thought would be to secure my family's safety in that situation. And if that means to move 180 degrees away, I will. That said, the hajjis seem to be threatening everybody with a knife. I can guarantee that wouldn't last long in the 42 states with legal carry laws.
It was also ridiculous that it took the police 20 minutes to bring a firearm to bear. Shameful.

I'm the same bro, I literally can't watch another person getting a beat down. In the rarest of cases, i.e. i'm with the mrs and kids and it's pretty ugly i'll call old bill and keep watch in case it does get a bit lethal then I'd have to at least distract the bastards.

What I am saying that the current situation warrants people not taking any unnecessary risks, and walking around in uniform whist not on duty is an added risk.
