Had a conversation with some guys the other day at a ball game, we're all lifters to some degree. The question that came up was what is more impressive when benching - 315 x 10 or 405 x 1
Probably has been asked a million times before, but what you guys think?
Personally I think 315 x 10, I mean 4 wheels looks good and all, but I guess the reps with big weight impresses me more, the other guys I was talking with thought 405 was, just because you don't see 4 wheels too often on the bench press.

The "315"
-
neither.
who cares.
this.

315....unless the 405 was for 3...for one is not impressive IMO for any weight under 600.
-
They are about the same. I could do 315 for ten when I could bench 400.
-
I find two types of thought:
People who like to look good and feel confident in their dress, personality, and dating life. If you take care of yourself as a male there is no reason not to peak in your 30's, and look good well into later years. This means staying lean and focusing on hypertrophy.
Then the perma fucking fatso and young kids who want to impress all the G4P homosexuals with their feats of strength. Summed up by "me and my beer drinking casual weightlifting buddy".
There are a few exceptions to this rule.

I was able to do 315 x 12 at 235. At 195 I can bang it out for 6-7 quality reps. Did 405 for 1 rep no spot etc, Never again - too much risk of injury.
315 for reps is more impress IMHO

I didn't realize this was a Powerlifting board.

The "315"
only if its close grip

#405 for a single, maximum weights are always more impressive only because I can run down the rep conversion in my head easily. #405 is a common enough number, that I know most guys get between 8 - 12 reps when they can hit that.
Now high reps are fun when the numbers are so high that you really haven't seen them done before. For instance, those Spoto videos where he's doing reps with #600 plus, because there is still a mystery there.

The true age of emasculation has arrived.
Men now value aesthetics over performance. Essentially women with a penis.
Sad.

If you can rep 315 for 10, 405 for 1 is NO problem

Hmm...not sure about that - I've done 315 for 10 and there's absolutely no way in hell I could have put up 405. Maybe 380 tops.

I don't usually go over 8 reps....never did 315 for 10 or even tried to for that matter but have gotten 435 x 3
