Title: Poll
Post by: arce1988 on August 13, 2013, 03:56:52 PM
Would you consider it tragic to die doing what you loved? NO jokes. Just honest answers. How do each of you feel about dying while doing your passion?

Not tragic. Dying with any sort of meaning is not tragic... whether that being dying saving others, dying while serving your country,  dying while doing what you love...

When I think of a tragic death, I think of 5 year old that gets killed when a drunk driver t-bones her car.

Only if you love being a 125 year old man

Exactly. A child getting hit by a car or a bus... that is tragic.

A wing suit flyer crashing and dying is not tragic. Not for that person. For the loved ones, yes

That is irrelevant.
try this:
'Up to this point in the stages of death, all experience has occurred within the framework of individual consciousness. Since individual consciousness is a reflection which has no basis in reality, all experience up to this point has been the nature of a dream. An increasingly real dream, but a dream nonetheless. In contrast, the Spiritual Plane exists in its own right, beyond the dream of individual experience and the cycles of birth and death.'

No man can live well, who is not prepared to die well.

Doing what you love and dying, may not mean one dies well...one may die a lonely death, without telling their folks and loved ones how they truly feel. Or without apologizing to those one has crossed. Doing what one loves, is merely one aspect of life.
Besides, what if one is a hitman, and died doing that? Did that person "die well"? Did he did with honor?

if he loved being a hitman, and he died doing it, then there is no tragedy there. You're putting a judgemental spin on it. If you died from getting assfucked by a horse, and everyone thought you were a piece of shit, but you died doing what you loved, there is no tragedy. If others approve of what you enjoy doing is not relevant.

Now every gambler knows, that the secret to surviving...

Is knowing what to throw away, and knowing what to keep.

Because every hand is a winner, and every hand is a loser...

And the best that you can hope for, is to die in your sleep.

No!   If I died while doing 68 mph on my Jet Ski in NYC Harbor surrounded by the Statue of Liberty, Freedom Tower, Brooklyn Bridge, Empite State Building  - right in the middle of all the boat traffic, hustle and bustle, on a warm summer day - w the Coast Guard, Cicle Line, Ferry's , tourists, sailboats and all else around that would be fucking awesome!

Ukjeff would die a happy man, if he had a heart attack midway through a thread where he'd been arguing for 72 hours non-stop, only stopping briefly to 'eat more', because he was 'only trolling'.

He is a lawyer, it would take at least 65mph before he feels anything

My machine tops out at that speed under best conditions full throttle.

I disagree. If someone dies doing something they love or even something they hate, it is so often due to negligence, recklessness, miscalculation, performing above one's capacity. In other words: safety first. If someone loves fishing and drowns because they drank a case of beer on the boat and refused to wear a life jacket, there is no glory in that. Wake up guys, and smell the coffee.

I wouldn't consider it tragic.  I'd prefer to die surrounded by people I love.
