It's pretty much indisputable by now. Not beinga dick here, but most in the bodybuilding world still still don't get that.

Nothing to discuss - it's the best form of cardio to get peeled.

Geez...

discuss caloric intake and output. In the overall scheme of things, nothing else really matters.

Stupid.

Goes deeper than that.

Well of course it does, but being as this per capita is a much larger issue, why not discuss it and its level of importance? Dieting without exercise is just plain ignorant. Don't need to discuss why... or maybe I do, but there isn't much mention (if any) of nutrition along with "cardio" which is also a misnomer ~

We all know there is no "best" cardio. That is just as ignorant as pitting volume training against HIT ~

Does that make sense?

If you already exercise regularly then ok but not a safe way to 'get into shape' imo.  Take someone who hasn't moved in 10 years and redline their heart rate, they might fall over dead.  Really.

HIT works.

Most people can't handle the intensity because of severe pussyitis.

Try hitting stadium steps for 15 min, 3 times per week at maximum effort.

Stopped reading here: "The picture to the right shows an extreme example of the different training outcomes of a marathoner (“steady state” cardio) and sprinter (high intensity interval training cardio).." Extremely stupid statement... Those two guys have completely different workouts and food intake specifically designed to achieve very specific outcome... so how can you use it to 'prove' that HIIT is better is beyond me  ???

it's "HIIT", not HIT.

old in my book. my routine has been 60 sec sprints uphill and 120 sec rest/jogg x7-8 times. or the same can be done on a bike. quite taxing for the heart. especially if you're heavy.. I prefer to do it in calorie defecit or in the morning empty stomach.

Hey genius, before you start correcting spelling errors like you're my 6th grade English teacher, consider your own stupidity.

It's deficit, NOT defecit. And jog, NOT jogg.

Ok. Sure. Lets call it a misunderstanding.

Moving forward, learn your second language better before you correct people.

For me the whole idea of HIIT also makes it unenforceable - beause you have to run really, really fast... and that sucks.  :P

Anyone tried LIIT?

Low intensity interval training. You walk slowly for one minute and rest for two.  :D

How about no "Cardio?" ~ just diet and weight training. If anything, speed up your heart rate by working faster and resting less... possibly some lighter weights too.

It works for me.

Unless I decide to hit the pool.... I mean "H.I.T" the pool ~ and that's just for fun.

I guess if you're fat... well, the diet could take literally forever.

definately. a 1 hour weightlifting workout burns alot of cals if done at a decent high pace. it's all about heart rate. In a leg workout for example you will probably have an average heartrate of 150+. a leg workout pretty much is HIIT

Not to mention that sprinters are usually on a boatload of drugs.

Intervals have been around forever. The problem is that out of shape guys go directly to intervals and they do the work period for such a short period of time that it is isn't really effective. Try something like after a warm up 200 yard sprints. Maybe 8 x 200 meters with a a 200 meter walk/slow jog. Most want to do 40 yard sprint intervals when they are fat and out of shape. It a stress to the heart and primes you for an orthopedic injury. Intervals are really dangerous if you have bad heart because of the redline immediate stress.

Doing conventional mainly aerobic type conditioning is also a really good method but the bro science and one week of internet schooling personal trainers have given it a thumbs down. The reason I suspect is because it's tough to go out and run a couple miles. It's to much work for the lazy who wants to run six 40 yard sprints and go home.
