Title: Solid advice needed - some POS went through my car last night
Post by: BigCyp on September 17, 2013, 02:56:37 AM
Some POS crept onto my driveway last night and went through my whole car, turning everything out all over the seats etc. I must have left it unlocked when MrsCyp asked me to bring the shopping bags through to the kitchen.

Anyway, I'm not the kind of guy to feel at ease with that, even though they only stole a jacket - Last time someone tresspassed on my property and stole my road bike, I drove around for 4 weeks watching every bike on the road until I saw the bastard, cut him up and yanked the bike off him amongst other threatening behaviour  ;D Even if the bike was worth £5 i'd do the same thing - PRINCIPLE.

So should I stay up and look out for this scumbag for a couple of nights - maybe even record it for getbig?  ;D

***EDIT - My ID work badge was in the coat pocket!!! so the beta individual knows my name/face/work address/home address/car reg - to many details for my liking

What say you all, let it go?

be unlikely to come back

I take it you didn't have any id,keys etc left in the car

contact your local crime reduction team there has probably been a spate of similar incidents in the area

reporting it will help them built up a pattern for the offences

Interesting, in the United States we would probably rip him off the bike.  :o

I was hoping you'd reply mate, always level headed advice.

Bound to be a crackhead just pulling handles street after street,

Problem is....they knicked my blue felt overcoat and it had my work ID badge in it so they know my name & address & workplace...

Haha good observation, you have to picture both him and the bike being horizontal on the pavement to see how I acheived this  8)

Sounds like you made an enemy, and they are now going to slowly hunt and torment you.

I say this with all humility, no one who lives in my neighbourhood would be my enemy.

I'm a very nice family guy, but my surname (which is very memorable - blame Cyprus lol) wouldn't go unoticed in a conversation down the local  :-[

Thank my brothers for that, but it does come in handy.

Go out and buy a 1080p camera with ir light for night time, fix up a security light with pr that detects motion, install a yale wireless alarm, as good the 2 grand alarms at a fraction of the cost.pm me if you want info just did all this myself.

I'm quite surprised at your response to this. Maybe it's because it has happened to me several times but I don't really think its a big deal, just part of life, just don't leave valuables in the car.

Actually this same thing happened to me last week. I left my car unlocked which I usually do since I have nothing of value in it. They just opened my glove box and ashtray looking for money or whatnot. I actually had a pocket knife and sunglasses in there but they didn't even take those. My stereo is bone stock no CD player and the car is 15 years old.

I guess my advice is not worry about it. Was nothing personal just a junkie looking for money or electronics. Actually my MP3 player as in my car but in a secret compartment under my seat. I had the car two years before I even knew about it!

I guess if you want to be proactive you can install a small surveillance camera pointing out towards your car so if it happens again you or the police can see who did it.

I did the same. Left my car unlocked on the drive and then at 2am saw a black kid stealing the parking change and a white kid standing guard. They saw me and legged it. I could even smell the alcohol breath in the car. I still fantasize about getting outside faster and my hands on them..

not quite my friend

most insurance companies wont approve a diy installed alarm

if you want the police to attend you need a graded system installed by an accredited supplier

also how are you recording the images from the camera?

Probably just some kids. I bet if you circled around the block, you'd find your badge or coat. I did this one night when I was 13 or so. Me and a buddy snuck out and checked for unlocked cars. We got into one and grabbed some change and a pocket translater. We messed with the translater for a few then tossed it aside on the walk home. Not my proudest moment, but kids do some trifling shit.

It was a semi serious post to be honest, I just HATE when strangers are on my property touching my stuff.

I've now amended the line "Shall I set up a camera etc" with a smiley  ;D

Ok, so what are the chances that someone can impersonate you online/telephone/setting up credit etc - if they only have the following details:

1. Full name
2. Address
3. Car Reg
4. Work address
5. (date of birth - surely they can find that online if they have full name and address - I know how quickly I got UKJeff's haha)

its possible but unlikely

it might be worthwhile notifying your bank and credit card providers

however if you do this they might block any transactions you might make

what I did was put the word round when it happened to me

my stuff got returned

if you know any of the local bad boys might be worth having a word

there will be some in your gym im sure

Chances are they won't be back and as far as the info of yours on the badge, they won't do shit with it because they are afraid you have already reported it and anything they try to do in your name will be flagged.  Most likely they tossed the badge at another location.

shit, the same thing happened to me two months ago.....my neighborhood is pretty safe, I'd say, but for the past year or so, there has been some Neggars on the block lately and that's when I start seeing these type of shit....seriously, I've been in this neighborhood for over 10yrs and never had this problem.....anyway, one morning, I'm about to get into my car and I noticed both doors were half closed and I said shit, someone went into my car and gave it a complete cavity search.....glove compartment were upside down, and papers were all over the seats. thank goodness, they didn't pop my trunk. I had a nice boombox there.....they did not close my doors as they would have make noises and someone would have suspected something.......I just hope I'd caught this person in the process and I have a feeling that I would've known who I really am......I would definitely know how it feels like to stab someone... :)

I just hate it when mothafuckers break into my shit.....5yrs ago in a town not too far from me, there was  a dude who popped two teenagers trying breaking into his truck and one of them died......there was a public outrage as to why the dude killed someone for breaking into his property, but I don't see anything wrong with that at all....he was in his balcony observing two hoodlums breaking into his shit and he had the right to take actions....anyway, I don't know what happened to him afterward, but if I was this dude, I would have done the exact same thing..Period

Did they steal your registration as well?  Doesn't your work badge just have your photo?  most companies don't put their names on the badge so that if someone stole it they don't actually know which company the badge belongs to.

I hate having to keep my reg in the car.  Some of the biggest scams is people  breaking into cars at long term airport parking lots know that you are on a trip and being able to find out all your info.

So never leave your reg in your car if you go on a long trip.

If you want to catch the guys.  This time set a trap.  Leave a $100 bill on the seat and your window slightly open and then watch all night.  Criminals are dumb fucks and always look for more scores.  be careful though.  Some of these petty thieves are also the slimiest and will cap a bullet in you out of fear of getting caught.

Twll her to keep her sunglasses either in the trunk or in the house.
People are always passing by, and if they see anything of value, they'll try the doors...if unlocked, it's free range...if she HAS to keep them in the glovebox, where you know people used to put stuff like that. In the armrest cubby bins (that have covers), or the seat pockets in the back of the front seats...
Or hell, just get tinted windows--that have the most legal tint.

When I lived in Atlanta, if you worked in the downtown area (or just had to go and park there for any reason) and had to use one of the public parking lots there (in the 5 points area, near the Capital, courthouse, etc..) when you parked your car you would leave the ash tray open, the door to the glove compartment down and the top of the center console up.  That way the crackheads could see there was nothing in there worth wasting their time to break your window for.  If you had tinted windows you would leave them cracked down a bit so they could see in and see that you didn't have shit in there to steal.

Atlanta has been cleaned up majorly since then and the downtown area is very bright, white and all right currently with the po-pos in strong effect all over.  But back then it was cesspool city and car crime was fucking horrible.

Thanks MOS, and no thankfully all 30 pairs were intact and still folded (naturally I put each pair over my head to check none had been replaced with fakes)

Oh thank heavens!!

I just thought about the countless hours of lunges, hacks and taint shavings I underwent to perfect those and.....well.....hey.... .at least they're in the eager hands of their rightful owner.

Sniff with pride my friend.....sniff with pride.

Listen Cyp, take it from me. I happen to know a bit about this. YES it is very easy to establish credir and steal your identity with very basic information.

Here is what you do:

Cancel your credit cards and checks, make sure you have ordered new ones.

Go to your bank and have your name flagged.

call the credit bureaus and have your name flagged

make a police report.

This will not stop someone from trying to use your id for credit but it will make it harder plus it establishes a time line for you to refute claims if someone does.

sorry to hear some low life got into your car.

Thanks bros,

Quick update - was driving home and smelled a funny old man scent, quickly ducked and pulled over to find UKJeff crouching in the back foot well. Apparently I made a post in the OTH diet thread that had an inconsistency with something I posted in 2003 and he wanted to 'just troll' me about it in person!

LOL!!

Reminds me of the time my sister left her car unlocked in the driveway one winter night and a homeless man crawled in the backseat to stay warm.  She discovered him the next morning when she was leaving for work and he apologized and quietly got out and left.  But that fucking scent LINGERED for MONTHS.  I mean 3-4 full interior shampoo jobs just beat the initial scent into submission but when summer arrived and it was warming up, you could still catch a whiff of it at times as the spores down in the fabric warmed up.  She sold that car quick as shit then.

When you park it for the night, unscrew the interior light and leave a bear trap open in the seat.

You should leave your car open again and wait in the shadows for the culprit. It may take time, but they will come back knowing they got something off of you.

Sounds like a plan, sit behind your dustbin with your car unlocked every night for the next 12 months hoping some random guy turns up again and tries to get in the car.

Yeah, because not sleeping for several nights is really going to do good to your health. These robbers often target areas far away from where they live anyway.

The guy probably has already thrown out your jacket or sold it. I bet that he threw your ID in the nearest dumpster. He doesnt want your ID, he is afraid of your ID. If he ever gets caught for a crime in the future, and he has your ID on him, the police would use that ID to convict him on burglarizing a car (on top of the charges pertaining to the crime that he originally got busted for).

He will eventually do time in jail/prison. Thats a promise.

I was hoping you'd reply mate, always level headed advice.

Bound to be a crackhead just pulling handles street after street,

Problem is....they knicked my blue felt overcoat and it had my work ID badge in it so they know my name & address & workplace...
Well, if you had a Getbig ID Card, he'd have personally returned it at your doorstep and said "Sorry bro, didn't know you were Getbig affiliated...no harm, right?"
