Title: Best non whey protein?
Post by: theworm on September 28, 2013, 07:32:42 AM
Anyone find a good tasting non whey protein?  I am lactose intolerant and whey gives me acne.  I found some egg protein but I want natural ingredients, not suctolose nor stevia...

Any luck?

I like the Vitol Egg Protein Powder, you can get it at the Fruitful Yield if you have one locally

I buy unflavored powders and mix them with a scoop pure cacao powder

REAL isolate or Hydrolysate should continue zero lactose. All of these shit brands use concentrate because it's the cheapest to manufacture and that's what's fucking you up.

That 'eases the pain', but it's prob not just a matter of adding some vanilla and that's it. Maybe you can post the ingredients?

I'm just not sure about stevia...  Just doesn't seem natural

"Stevia is a genus of about 240 species of herbs and shrubs in the sunflower family (Asteraceae), native to subtropical and tropical regions from western North America to South America."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevia

Sounds pretty natural to me, but I prefer unflavored powders.

Not sure but didn't they have an "award" for "Best Non-Whey Protein of the Year" during last nights intermission/commercial on the Olympia broadcast?

Since supplements are completely unregulated they can say anything they want on the label. I'm lactose intolerant. When I use isolate whey that says they are lactose free I still get a reaction although less than concentrate. I don't believe for a second they are lactose free.

I believe it depends on how lactose intolerant you are. About 1.5 year ago I removed all dairy, accept whey protein, and I feel much better now. I don't believe that removing the whey (1.8 grams of sugar/30 gram) will make a huge difference.
A producer is allowed to claim that his product is xxx-free if that ingredient or nutrient is below a certain limit.

Well in my defense I had the audio on in the background while I read the recent issue of Stereophile magazine.   ;D

Whether whey protein messes up my stomach depends on the brand.

Meal replacement shakes seems to have the least negative effects for some reason.

There's a certain whey fraction, beta-lactoglobulin, which is known to cause an allergic reaction in some.

Some of those with this allergy say they can handle a pure casein fine.
