Jon Lester shut down the Cardinals in Game 1 of the World Series in Boston Wednesday night. The Red Sox lefty scattered five hits over 7 2/3 inniings without allowing a run while striking out eight.
Naturally, a Cardinals minor league pitcher, Tyler Melling, posted a picture of Lester’s glove on Twitter and everyone is now in a tizzy wondering if Lester was using a foreign substance to doctor the ball.
From screenshots, it’s hard to even guess what the blotch on Lester’s glove might be. It would take some serious cojones to try to use Vaseline on a ball during the World Series. There are six umpires on the field, thousands of people in the stadium, millions watching at home and yet nobody noticed except one person on Twitter?
Amateur conspiracy theorists can point to this video evidence that, yes, Lester was clearly doctoring the baseball.

for some reason i was expecting to see a photo of an asshole.

Giving this organization's rep for sign stealing, etc...this wouldn't surprise me at all.

Im sorry the thread dissapointed you... Maybe you`ll be more lucky next time. :)
fagget... ::)

Every team tries to steals signs...It's part of gamesmanship...Just as every pitcher talks in his glove when the catcher comes out to talk to him. Teams hire lip readers.

yes because they are the only team to try and steal signs, etc. ::)

I do think Clay Buchholtz wetting his hair between every inning is suspect. Who's to say he doesn't use soul glow on his hair and wetting it re-activates the oil...But not enough oil as to it's visible on the ball...Pedro Martinez for sure used some sort of product in his hair...You could literally see oil dripping off Pedro's hair some nights...

Who said that? Every team does it, but I don't recall other teams who had to remove TVs from the there bullpens with live game feeds......
And I'm guessing you haven't read any player complaints specific to this at Fenway.
Andt there's plenty more shadiness to this organization outside of the alleged sign shit....So ::) back at you.

It's not against the rules to steal signs. It's part of the game...They've been stealing signs since the birth of baseball.

I'm loving the boston reporters analysis... "This is probably just some plastic used to keep the glove together at the webbing..."
hahahaha modded gloves, for the pitcher, and he keeps touching that part before pitching. And I bet the glove is "missing" today when MLB asks for it.
It's part of the game, but they gotta bust guys like this.
-
Almost every pitcher will use some sort of substance in cold weather, rain etc. Usually pine tar. But it's a fine line of how much is allowed...I don't know what Lester has in his glove but my guess is it is not what people think it is. The STL minor leaguer who tweeted about the glove erased his tweets most likely because STL management probably told him "WTF are you doing"...We don't want the whole world looking at our pitchers now you dumbbass...

Dude, there's still people in Boston who think Ortiz was clean.....trust me from living up here - Sox fandom is a disease. Throw all logic and reason out the window.
Sure there's some smart fans, but the general masses are complete homers to the point of absurdity.

If they only had pics, I would have agreed. The video clearly shows him going to the spot before the pitch. It is what it is - he used a substance and didn't get caught during the game. It had no affect on the outcome, as St. Louis gave it away on defense.
-
cheating in baseball? say it ain't so.
-
I'll respect Lester if he says "I don't want to talk about it" or "Next question".
However, if he comes out with some bullshit story about how his glove had just ripped and it's his lucky glove so he glued it back together but would never cheat because he's better than that...
lol... then he will be a moron and i'll dislike the dude forever. Don't make it worse & insult everyone's intelligence.

Well see if the next time he pitches if it looks like he has something in the same place...If so, then it's safe to say it's not what people think it is. If there's nothing there, then for sure he's used something...It just seems unlikely that a pitcher in the 21st century would put a substance on the inside of the glove for anyone to see it. And by the picture it looks like whatever it is, there is a ton of it...

Agreed on the pic. Did you watch the video -he goes right to the spot.

I'm not a fan of Lester because I think he shows up the Umps almost every time he doesn't get a call and I believe it works against him and his team...Because he had cancer people have walked on egg shells with him. But the guy has shown he is a total cry baby on the mound. I also wonder if he gets a pass on PED's because of his cancer...

I'm guessing the pic is either two things - the light/angle made it look worse than it was, or he messed up and later massaged it into the glove. You don't need a bunch of goop - just a bit on the surface, which would be hard to see, given all the dirt, sweat, etc.
Your Lester post about his demeanor was spot on.

It's Bulldog sunscreen...ok'd by MLB to help a pitcher get a better grip on the ball.

Even though these guys are passing tests, doesn't mean they aren't using synthetic test etc. They just have it down to a science where when they are tested, they know how to bring their test levels back to the very top allowance...So these guys can go over the limit allowed all the time and when a test comes up, bring it back down to the high end. I'd love to see the test results for every player tested. I bet every one of them comes up on the high end of the spectrum...
Does anyone know if they test players during/after the playoffs? Or is it just the regular season. If they don't test for the playoffs, Ortiz could load up on test and anadrol and be a monster...

1- It isn't Vaseline.
2- is not a banned substance
3-gives you control on the cutter but it doesn't affect the way a ball is hit.
4-nine out of ten pitchers uses it.

'Giant booger' or rosin? Jon Lester says he doesn't have a cold
CBS SPORTSLINE | on Thu, Oct 24, 6:55 PM
Jon Lester says he keeps a rosin bag in his glove between starts, hence the 'giant booger' near the thumb. (USATSI)BOSTON -- The odd green substance in his glove may look like "a giant booger" in the Zapruder-like snapshots from Game 1 videos, Red Sox[1] pitcher Jon Lester[2] said Thursday, but it was pure rosin. And nothing more."I didn't do anything," Lester said, addressing a sizable group of reporters near the Red Sox dugout during batting practice before Game 2 of the World Series[3]. "J...

The substance used was apparently rosin...Many pitchers put rosin on their hat, arms neck etc...I didn't think have rosin in the glove itself was ok to do but apparently it's not a problem...
