Title: advices on a new lifting belt
Post by: buffdnet on November 22, 2013, 03:59:20 PM
I currently use an old golds 4 inch leather belt.
it needs replaced and I'm looking for advices.
I would prefer to stay with a 4 inch but ive never used
any other type than leather.  which has gotta be about as
dated as i am i rectum.

do consider i'm natural and all swimmer. my big weights are
prolly warm ups for many of you but I still need some support
cuz my L5 has a spondolo and is fractured.
thanks brothers

Learn proper form and technique. The better your form, the better your results — and the less likely you are to hurt yourself.
Spare your back. When you're lifting weights, keep your spine in a stable, neutral position. When you're picking up weights or putting them down, lift with your legs — not your back.
Ask for help. If you're lifting heavy weights, ask a training partner to spot you.

and just as many who do use a belt as well as knee sleeves. do what's comfortable.

http://www.amazon.com/Schiek-Sports-Belt-2004-Medium/dp/B001181VEY/

that's the winner. minimal, doesn't act like armor, just kinda gives you a little hug around the middle to help remain stable.

The cheapo golds works just fine. It depends how much support you need.

Grow some 'nads and drop the belt.  While you're at it, drop the wrist straps too.  The only thing you need is knee sleeves to keep the joints warm.

Inzer lifetime warranty.

depends on what you're using it for and your body type. i'm a skinny bastard so it digs into my hipbones and those things are awful for oly lifts. if you've got some meat on you and primarily will be doing pulls/squats in it? inzer all the way. lever belt if you can afford it. going from buckle to lever was a revelation.

Inzer lifetime warranty.
thank you chaos.
thank you mr. magoo.  that's what i use a belt for, added stability.

LMV thanks for the tips.  i'm well experienced. 25 years and 1 comp.
I made my best gains when i threw away all that strict form stuff.
except for deads and squats.  the pros use shitty form and partial reps for a reason.
I never bad mouth them for doing so rather I shut the fuck up and enjoy the benefit
of higher training poundages and more muscle.

I have life threatening medical issues and multiple injuries and genetic south of goodrums.
but I am seriously considering a run at a trophy next year.
I may not get another chance.
the guys in shorts rather put me off from competing but in the 55 n older natural masters
(60 if i don't hurry) maybe I have a shot if i string together several shows.
I want one of them swords brothers.
if not I know one thing,

I may be old but I'm a bad ass
because I do even lift bro.
I can bring on the rage, hate and violence.
I understand intensity.

respect to those that have replied.

unless you already have an injury or birth defect.
my L5 is either due to 10 years as a concrete finisher or a birth defect.
what I choose to do is to error on the side of safety and leave the ego
to you children

I always use the INZER single prong powerlifting belts. I think I have 10mm belts... they're the thinner of the two "lifetime" belts or something.. I believe there's 10mm and 13mm.. or something like that. I love the thinner ones.... (they're damn sure not "thin" and take some time to break in)

I've never felt good about using a typical 'bodybuilding-style' lifting belt.. I don't they provide support at all.

I've always been tempted to get a lever-belt from Inzer, but my waist is fairly small now and if I start wearing a belt again my waist will surely expand. but I don't push heavy weights anymore. 505/525 for 5 or so is about as heavy as i'll squat anymore and I don't need a belt for that.

If a person has a pre-existing spine/vertebrate problem, and continues to do (heavy) deads, that person really should talk to some older people that made the same choice.  I'm sure it will facilitate a moment of clarity for you.

I'm 57 with over 25 years of training.  how much older do you want.
i also have liver disease, peripheral artery disease, a heart murmur
and have had at least 1 stroke.  the gym at the ymca in down town dayton
is on the 4th floor and getting there is in itself a challenge some days.
my training extends my life and helps maintain my mental health.
I continue to train because it's what I have passion for.  It's what I do.
I live life on my terms and accept the consequences
of my actions be they good or bad.  I do what I want.  I live life for me and me alone.
by your comment I'd be willing to bet you're a christian.  no free thinker would come at me
with such blabber.  fuck man i can't even dead 4 wheels nor have the need to squat over 2 wheels anymore.
I'm no mass monster i'm a swimmer.
there's your moment of clarity son.  fucking cross licking gimmick

You sound like a train wreck.  Have you considered changing your approach?

I was born and raised in a christian community, and have no issues with christian beliefs or any other religion.  They're all fairy tales.    I'm not a churchgoer.
