OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Police praised a football fan for saving the life of a woman who jumped from the third-level deck of the Oakland Raider's home stadium by breaking her fall.
The woman, who was not identified, was critically injured Sunday after plunging about 45 feet at O. co Coliseum. She jumped shortly after the Raiders' 23-19 loss to the Tennessee Titans and as fans were filing out of the stadium.
A good Samaritan who tried to break her fall was injured in the process, stadium officials said in a statement.
"He saved her life quite honestly, at his own expense," Alameda County Sheriff's Sgt. J.D. Nelson told the Oakland Tribune. "This guy 100 percent saved her life. She'd be dead now."
Nelson said the woman went to a seating area that was covered by a tarp and appeared to be alone when she jumped. The man who was on the concourse level saw her and repeatedly shouted, "don't do it," Nelson said.
Nelson told KTVU-TV he lunged toward the woman as she dropped. He was knocked down and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The man's name was not released. Nelson told the TV station he was a former Marine from Stockton and Raiders season ticket holder.
On the NFL opening day this year, a fan died from a fall off a pedestrian overpass outside Candlestick Park in San Francisco, and two others were injured when a railing collapsed at the Colts game against the Raiders in Indianapolis.

Semper fidelis. Well done Marine.

When a marine does something great it's because he's a marine, when a marine does something bad it's has nothing to do with him being a marine.
Maybe we are all just human beings.

It's the opposite when a random bodybuilder makes the news.
-
No such thing as a "former" Marine. ;D
While I'm proud he is one of us, I would like to think any good man would step in to help a lady in a dire circumstance. Funny how the media always calls it out though

Agreed. I believe a lot of woman don't have a clue what it takes to actually die. Some think they can hit a telephone pole at 25 mph without a seat belt and die. lol

Not just women people in general. I've seen dudes with limbs blown off and holes ripped into their bodies and they lived but on the other hand knew a guy who was in a close vehicle that got hit with an IED that died days later of internal bleeding. He had no visible injuries and shit with just some ringing in his ear just to drop dead 3 days later.
Heard for people shooting themselves in the head and living. Man talk about feeling like a failure huh?

Im sure if you went to SOI west, tbat you heard the old scuttlebutt about the Marine in guard trying to suck start his M16 on burst, blowing the back of his head off and then living?
im sire it was a horseshit story, but it was a good one.
another one was the story about the recon guys stealing the bolts out of the Marines weapons at Papa 314 when they fell asleep, so when they went to show clear, when the dust covers opened there was no bolt inside... ah, good times.

Ya but now he gets full disability, a parking space and someone to push him around all day...He was probably really struggling to make ends meet as a security guard...

maybe she looked good and he hoped he could date her afterwards? Would you save an ugly looking person?
-
What a dumbass move. I really fuck people that can't perform suicides in a descent manor.

The best suicides are those who kill themselves without any fan fair and are only found months later. You know these people are serious.

Yeah vacation accidents like falling off hiking trails etc are much better options.
I think most people would be surprised to realize how many suicides get reported as accidents.

Yep. When a 28 year old chick on the phone with her baby daddy, screaming on the front porch, cuts herself and the neighbors call 911, that's not serious.
When a dude will hike 2 miles off a path, eat a bottle of xanex or shoot himself in 3 feet of bushes... that's commitment.

Yep, its all for him/her. Its not a show for attention or a cry for help. Its personal business that needs to be taken care of.

If some random person wants to off themself, who am I to try and stop them? I sure as hell wouldn't have gotten in the way of a large heavy projectile falling from 50 feet above.

Well she's a bitch because if there were young kids at the stadium who see her jump, they could have PTSD their whole lives. Any time kids are involved, we as a society have to try to stop it imop...
